The last few rays of sunlight bounced off the screen of the living room's TV and shone directly in King’s eyes. She slouched further down on the couch and held her book a little higher, attempting to shield herself from the distracting light with a grumble.

Outside, the sinking sun was giving way to a night watched over by a full moon. Any other night the small sphynx cat would have kept track of the moon’s cycle, but she had recently become invested in the latest installment of Answering the Woods and suffice to say, she had lost track of time.

But who could care about a full moon when Nievi Esaedo was about to face off with the beast of legend? Fans had waited six books for this battle! Under any other conditions, King would be obliged to agree. This question, however, was about to be answered in the form of the sphynx cat’s relatively gigantic girlfriend, Avalanche.

Donning deep pink earrings alerting the observant to her affectionate mood, the catfish dragon squeezed her way into the living room, knowing this is where her small partner would be at this time of day. Avalanche lay over top of King and tried to get her attention from the other side of the book. In response, King used the book to separate the dragon’s line of sight.

Neivi drew her sword. Dhamnai screeched back to accept the challenge. The trees around them seemed almost as audience members to the show --

Avalanche had pushed up King’s shirt and was kissing her stomach.

“Avy, you’re distracting me,” King whined.

Avalanche was always like this during a full moon; overly-affectionate and cuddly. King could deal with it most months, but she was extra sour this time around because it was interrupting her reading.

The dragon burried her face in her girlfriend’s stomach and started purring, which tickled.

King tried to wriggle away but Avalanche only took this as having finally got her attention. She jumped forward and effectively pinned down the sphynx cat, one massive paw on either side of her tiny and now annoyed girlfriend.

Any further attempt to protest was muffled by a mouthful of Avalanche’s hair as the dragon pressed her face into the crook of King’s neck and dampened the skin there with a tounge the size of her partner’s face.

King pressed into the mound of fur above her to try and push Avalanche off her, but to no avail.

The demi-goddess didn’t even notice the attempt.

“Avy, get off me, I was trying to read!” King growled. She didn’t even know where her book had gone. Probably knocked onto the floor somewhere, she figured. To King’s pleseant surprise, Avalanche stopped, looked down at her just shy of apologetically, and crawled off her.

“Awh…” Avalanche sat on the floor next to the couch and pouted.

King retried her book from the floor and repositioned herself on the couch, attmpting to once again ignore the disappointment radiating from her girlfriend.

This proved to be impossible when Avalanche pawed at King’s legs to get her attention again.

“You are so needy sometimes, Avy.” King sighed, jumped down onto the floor, and layed across the catfish dragon’s stomach as a sort of makeshift couch upon which to continue her reading.

Avalanche was happy about this middle ground. She smooched the top of King’s head and played with her hair while the sphynx cat read all about Neivi’s unexpected truce with the once-opposing monster.

The kingdom’s problems came to a close when each warring side found a way to achieve their goals without hurting the other. They created a land in which both Neivi and Dhamnai could peacefully coexist.

Under the light of the full moon, King closed her book and fell asleep on the soft cushion of her girlfriend’s stomach.
