Year One 🌙

Moon 0 (Clan Creation):

Furzestar was once known as Furzenose, and was a middle-aged warrior from TurtleClan- a beach-dwelling clan of cats who lived under a rather unique leader. This leader was very dedicated to the warrior code and their clan, but were very interested in themself and that their opinions are gospel. Partridgestalk, the deputy, sent him out on a solo patrol, and then Partridgestalk herself was later found dead on the territory. Furzenose was the only cat not in the camp at the time, was immediately blamed for her death, and no amount of reasoning would change their leader’s mind. Furzenose was exiled, and took with them 6 other cats who wanted to leave TurtleClan. They journeyed for a few days, but they then found two kittens hiding away in abandoned badger setts that would become their new home.

Furzenose felt guilty for these cats up-and-moving far away from their life they used to know, so took up leadership and responsibility for these cats and their new lives. Once they had settled, Longback led Furzestar back through familiar territory in order to meet at the Eyes of StarClan, which is a grotto at the edge of a lake, where the stars of the sky reflected upon the gentle ripples of the nighttime waters. Furzenose’s expectation of a leadership ceremony was thoroughly stomped, as the only cat he recognised was the newly deceased deputy: Partridgestalk. The other cats tried to speak to him, but Furzenose could not hear them, which terrified him. He wasn’t sure if it was due to the sheer anxiety and pressure, or if this was a sign that he wasn‘t destined for leadership.

He was embarrassed, and has not spoken of his insecurities to anyone. He returned back to camp with Longback, where their new lives officially started.

Moon 1:

Furzestar starts out in MantisClan as thoughtful with a Deep StarClan Bond. He seemed to be irritated by Condorkit- the younger abandoned kitten- playing loudly. His first patrol here would be with his apprentice: Peatpaw. This patrol would be to teach Peatpaw some battle moves in fear of attacks from TurtleClan, which Peatpaw was insistant that he knew it and would be fine. He was soon shown up by Furzestar, and dipped his head in annoyance and embarrassment. He would follow orders from now on.

Moon 2:

This moon began with Furzestar’s apprentice Peatpaw being granted his full name of Peatfoot. He was then immediately put to the test when a dog wandered onto territory and attacked Furzestar. Peatfoot led the dog away, but Furzestar was mangled in the process, and unfortunately lost a life. He was startled to find himself back in silverpelt, after the realisation dawned on him that he had already lost a life.

Furzestar caught Smallstem complaining about him behind his back, which further degraded Furzestar’s confidence in his leadership skills. However, his faith is restored by seeing tiny Condorkit always wanting to pretend to be Furzestar when playing pretend. In addition to this, he left camp for reasons unknown, and his deputy Snakeflow did not notice.

In this moon, Furzestar and Greenbone did their first border patrol, and found a rustling bush. They were conscious of not destroying a chance of new relations with nearby clans, so chose not to go in ready to fight. A queen bundled out of the bush, panting and tired with three newborns. The cat was named Keziahsting, and was desparate for somewhere to stay with her babies. Furzestar was hesitant- he wasn‘t keen on taking in new cats, but realised that they needed new paws to keep the clan afloat. Eventually, he agreed to take her home with him, also bringing home Aspenkit, Meadowkit and Softkit. Relations with outsiders improved.

Moon 3:

In this moon, Peatfoot wants to spend more with Furzestar! He has also softened to the new additions, and promises to Keziahsting that he will always protect her and her kittens. Similarly, he feels safe around Aspenkit. Furzestar also continues to intermingle with his clanmates, and Fleckfern appreciates how Furzestar continues to check on her: the clan elder. Meadowkit is surprised by Furzestar being thoughtful, they could possibly be untrusting of her new clanmates. Furzestar wonders how Aspenkit is doing, he seems to have some form of kinship with Keziahsting’s kits.

On this moon’s patrol, Furzestar takes up a training patrol alone, following the suspicion of the sett that was raised in the previous moon. The ground above was not stable, and he tumbled into the sett. The badger who had made the location its home was spooked by the sudden presence, and slays him quickly with his lethal claws. The badger fled, and Furzestar’s reviving body was discovered by Greenbone.

Moon 4:

Furzestar unfortunately had a huge argument with Greenbone this moon regarding how Greenbone was training Lowpaw. There was concern rising that she was too strict and harsh on the young, growing tom. Due to this being quite heated, he dreaded his leading duties and especially going on patrol.

Regardless of what he wanted, he went on patrol anyway, taking with him the mischievous Smallstem. He continually shows disdain for the warrior code and for his fellow clan mates. They embark on a border patrol, and find a dog near the MantisClan border. Childish Smallstem decides to run straight for him despite Furzestar’s orders. They successfully drive the dog away.

Moon 5:

Furzestar has a huge argument with Fleckfern, with Fleckfern very upset that Smallstem seems to continually disrespect the warrior code and his comrades, and Furzestar seems to be doing nothing outright about it. Furzestar’s affection for Keziahsting and her kits seems to go further, as Furzestar finds a bit of fluff that smells like Aspenkit, and adds it to his nest.

Once again, this moon Furzestar wonders how Aspenkit is doing. He seems to recognise the hoops that Aspenkit jumps through to take care of his siblings and mother. Furzestar did not go on a patrol this month, instead focusing on organising the groups of cats and repairing any damaged relationships under the strain of being such a small clan.

Moon 6:

The continuing stress of clan management seems to be weighing on Furzestar, as he was noticeably distracted while Longback was trying to tell a story. Furzestar also had a chat with the newly apprenticed Condorpaw. Despite not saying it, Tumbleroot admires how brave Furzestar is, which would have been an important confidence booster. But on the other hand, Tumbleroot has also been eavesdropping on him. Meadowkit noticed Furzestar being considerate, boosting her opinion on her leader. After some reassuring conversations with his clan mates, he cheered up considerably, and was caught humming to himself. The always ambiguous Smallstem wondered what Furzestar is thinking.

This moon’s patrol found him and Keziahsting completing a border patrol, and they came across a rustling bush. A loner burst forward, chasing a rabbit. They talk with her about clan life, discovering that she is a new lonely queen after being washed away from her previous home by a flood. Furzestar wasn’t keen on bringing a new face to the clan, but Keziahsting pleaded with him, reminding him where she came from. He agreed to take her with them, bringing Gorsestripe, Furzekit, Birchkit and Sunkit to the clan. MantisClan’s relationship with outsiders improved.

This seems to be the moon where Smallstem’s issues with Furzestar really begin to rise.

Moon 7:

This moon begins with Furzestar needing to bring his tougher leader side, as Peatfoot brings back three newborn kittens of unknown origin. It was immediately obvious that they were his, regardless of how much he argued it. In private, he confused in Furzestar that they WERE his with a kittypet, and that the kittypet sent Peatfoot away with the kits for fear that they would be rehomed once they were old enough. Furzestar sighed- it’s embarrassing that the cat he trained would be so ignorant to the Warrior Code. He decides that the kits will remain in and be raised as MantisClan cats, but Peatfoor would take hefty punishment to save the clan’s reputation.

Furzestar is surprised to hear Birchkit express an ideal that he can agree with. This is potentially related to him being a cat from outside the clan suddenly being moved to Clan life, and this may be him finally adjusting to it. Also this moon, Furzestar and Longback share tongues. He seemed much more irritable this moon, continually waking up on the wrong side of the nest. This might be why Peatfoot got such a harsh punishment.

This moon, he had an easier patrol as he went on a training patrol with Tumbleroot.

Moon 8:

To begin this moon, Furzestar assigns himself an apprentice, taking on Keziahsting’s youngster Meadowkit, now Meadowpaw.

However, the moon did not continue well as Gorsestripe passed away from an infected wound following a harsh kitting. Furzestar took time to take her to her final resting place with Keziahsting and Gorsestripe’s three newly orphaned kits, Birchkit, Furzekit and Sunkit. They were so young, but listened closely to the adults as they told stories of her limited time with her.

Furzestar scolds Birchkit, potentially after acting out following the death of his mother. Condorpaw covered Furzestar for something. Sunkit shares a joke about TurtleClan with Furzestar, taking interest in Furzestar’s roots.

Potentially revenge for a previous moon, Furzestar eavesdrops on Tumbleroot.

For this moon’s patrol, Furzestar took out his new apprentice Meadowpaw on a training patrol. This first patrol was so scary, Meadowpaw fears that she is a failure already and not good enough, and Furzestar reassures them that it is only the opening stretch.

Moon 9:

Furzestar is surprised to hear Storkkit express an ideal they can agree with. Storkkit seems to have lots of issues integrating into the clan, potentially after being a product of an out of clan affair. So Furzestar may have subconsciously been biased against her. Fleckfern and Furzestar chat while grabbing a bite to eat, Furzestar is making sure not to neglect their clan elder. Aspenpaw wants to spend more time with Furzestar!! They still seem to have a solid relationship.

Furzestar feels blessed by StarClan this moon, things seem to finally be going well.

Meadowpaw and Furzestar attempt to catch a rabbit, but it has too good a head start and manages to get away. Embarrassing for them both.

Moon 10:

Furzestar got a chance to meow hello to Greenbone this moon, but it’s not clear why, as Greenbone was caught touching noses with a kittypet. The kittypet was chased off the property. Despite the harshness of leader life, Keziahsting is the only cat who is able to make Furzestar laugh. Daisykit had Furzestar bump into her, and he didn’t even apologise!!

Furzestar picked up the scent of mischievous kits that had been playing in his nest.

The missing Aspenpaw thought he spotted Furzestar wandering around earlier.

Furzestar and Keziahsting take part in a border patrol, and spot a dog walking along the edge of the border. They stay back, as the dog has not entered MantisClan territory yet.

Moon 11:

Furzestar seems to have vain motivations this month, as he wishes he could get his pelt to shine like Longback’s. Furzestar also checks in with Sunkit to see how he is doing, since he is an orphaned youngster who needs additionally support.

Furzestar questions his ability to lead this moon.

He embarks on another border patrol this moon with Meadowpaw. They find suspicious footprints, which leads them to a rogue. The rogue strikes Meadowpaw who then runs away.

Moon 12:

This moon, Furzestar worries that Daisykit has been acting strangely. He also complains that Softpaw doesn’t do anything helpful, a huge blow to the confidence of the young apprentice. An extremely inconsiderate comment to make. Birchpaw and Furzestar have a spat over a piece of prey on the fresh-kill pile. Furzestar seems to be deeply disrespectful of his clan members this moon.

He feels down this moon. This might be why he has had so many negative reactions and outbursts.

Furzestar escorts Furzepaw on an herb-gathering patrol, as Meadowpaw is injured and unable to work. Furzepaw is giddy that he gets to order around his leader, they collect wild garlic and goldenrod.
