“Is there a reason you’re keeping that thing around?” Styx frowned at the egg Eclipse was carefully cradling.

“Is there a reason you continue to try my patience?” Eclipse growled at the vampire. “It’s almost as if you want to give me a reason to kick you out of the pack.” He pulled the egg further into the fur around his neck.

Styx sighed. “No. I’m simply curious. You didn’t seem particularly keen on it when we first came across it.”

Eclipse narrowed his eyes. “That was before I knew it was a were. I won’t be letting anyone else get their hands on it.”

“How do you even know? I don’t think I could tell if it was a vampire.” Styx hummed, pressing his luck by leaning further into Eclipse’s space. What can he say? He was feeling daring tonight.

The were rose to his full height and snarled. Styx very quickly gave in and backed off. It was annoying to have to listen to a were, he wasn’t particularly fond of them as a whole, but it was either that or attempt to be on his own after he was abandoned. As much as he didn’t like it he’d have likely been dead had he refused the offer Eclipse had given him. Plus having back up put him in a much better position to eventually enact his revenge. “Perhaps my senses are simply better than yours.” Eclipse settled down, eyes still narrowed. He shifted the egg to a better resting position.

Silence stretched between the two. It felt remarkably like a dismissal but well, Styx was going to pretend he didn’t notice. “What if it turns out to not be a were? What then?”

Eclipse barred his teeth and Styx raised his hands in surrender. He refused to use any of the gestures of submission he’d seen some of the other weres use, so that would have to do. “I know I am correct. Do not doubt my knowledge.” He growled before continuing. “But if you must know if somehow by some act of arceus himself the child hatched not a were I would simply convert them, and they would know no different.”

“And you’d trust the others to defend you and the child in such a vulnerable state?” Styx tilted his head.

“We are a pack. Those that chose to follow me I would trust with my life. You I am not so sure of.” Eclipse huffed.

“I have no reason beyond a general dislike of your kind to betray you. You saved my life though, so that means something.” Styx crossed his arms, humming. “I don’t enjoy being indebted to anyone, so given the chance to repay that I will. Of that at least you can trust.”

Eclipse held Styx’s gaze for a moment before nodding and returning his attention to the egg. “I will hold you to that should the time come where you need to act on it. Now leave me. I feel the egg will hatch soon. The moon will soon be at its highest point.”

“As you wish.” Styx gave what could probably be considered a rather disrespectful bow before walking away. He could pester the kommo-o another time. When he was less touchy and not dealing with the egg.
