King sank comfortably into her large, cushioned bed, grinning as she buried herself under the covers. From her pocket, she extracted her phone, finding the page she was looking for. It was a fantasy story, filled with angels and demons. Action packed with drama, but the real reason King loved this book was because the main character reminded her so much of Avalanche, her silly girlfriend. Her mind drifted from the story to Avy. “Oh, no. Only six days,” she whispered, thoughts coming to her abruptly. King pricked her ears, focusing her eyes on her phone as Avalanche walked toward the bed, trying to play hard to get. The catfish dragon didn’t even notice. She came in, picking King up quite easily. Being so much larger than King, Avalanche could practically envelope King in her body. She smothered King in light kisses. “Six days till what?” Avalanche asked, finally letting go of her as King squirmed out of her grasp.

“Till the new and improved fishing rod comes out,” King lied, swallowing with unease. She didn’t want Avalanche knowing that she had been thinking about her birthday. It was all part of the tough girl act. Besides, acting like she’d forgotten about it would make Avalanche even more surprised when she saw what King had been planning for her. This year, King was planning on giving Avy the best birthday imaginable. Avalanche loved buying presents for her, smothering her with so many gifts that it was equally flattering and annoying. It was only fair that she should do the same.

“Then I’ll buy it for you! My birthday’s coming up anyway! Making you happy would be the perfect present!” Avalanche exclaimed, eyes lighting up with a newfound purpose. “Plus, you know I love buying gifts!” She jumped up and down with joy, clapping her hands together.

The sphynx cat couldn’t help but grin at her adorable girlfriend’s antics. Even after being together for years, King could still hardly believe the lengths Avalanche would go to make her happy. She blushed as Avalanche gently pinned her to the bed, careful not the squash her, and kissed her smiling mouth over and over again. She then stopped, deciding to lie on the bed with King, holding her in the crook of her large arm.

“Avy,” King whispered as she wriggled slightly away from her, “Avy, I have things to do.” Inwardly, she basked in the happy feeling of being loved.

Avalanche completely ignored her, and King sighed, giving into the catfish dragon. Her fur smelled like fresh grass and all sorts of nice things that made the sphynx cat’s mind wander towards happy thoughts and days she’d long forgotten. Before she knew it, she had fallen into a deep, relaxing sleep.
