Chapter 1

"Does this even count as a dungeon? I thought we were getting some real work," Peregrine's eyes narrowed against the billowing sand clouds as he carefully picked a path through the maze of rolling hills, his tail swaying with every step he took.

"It's a simple survey, Kestrel suggested we start small." Jedda matched her teammate's sometimes erratic movements with practiced ease, trying to keep her hair shifted to shield against the sand while occasionally checking on Sasa floating along the river lazily behind them.

"Next time I'm picking the job..." the bagalandit grumbled on, hardly listening as he ducked a stream of a krabby's bubbles and cast a side glare at the offending pokémon "There's no challenge here."

"Of course not if you're just bashing your way through everything." the mawinat twisted as a weedle struck from the tree they had been forced to stop beside, letting the motion carry her into a tackle as she tossed the bug aside and settled against his back in a defensive stance.

Not that such action was necessary as an ember from him made quick work of the weedle and a sneak absorb from Sasa finished off the krabby before she even had a chance to attack again. Jedda relaxed as the battle tension faded and flopped down to rest where she stood, "Relax Reggy, we'll get plenty more work once we prove our skills."

Peregrine huffed as he dropped behind her and scanned the area around them, "The goal is to get stronger..."

"Every little bit helps," Sasa's voice bubbled from the water as she slowly pulled herself from the river to join them on the dusty shore, "and getting familiar with all the dungeons is just as good while we find our rhythm."

"Dungeon divers must know each and every mystery dungeon inside and out to be most effective at helping citizens near the afflicted areas and reduce the overall impact of the dungeon phenomenon." Jedda quoted the division motto as she leaned back into her squad leader and studied the finally dissipating clouds above.
