Chapter 1

Revna slinked among the party guests, her massive size intimidating some of the smaller 'mons but doing little to disturb her surprisingly lithe movements as she made her way through the crowd and outside into the crisp night air. The king and queen had indeed thrown a grand masquerade as they promised, drawing the scattered weremons and vampires back under the same roof to celebrate their holiday in the only way they knew how. Which yes did involve plenty of scaring but no real harm was done, okay maybe little real harm...

At the mere thought of trouble Deryn appeared, Coyote resting masked on the sneasler's shoulder and giving the impression that the duo were some kind of pirate pair. An impression that wasn't completely false but also underplayed how devious the vampire and scout could be when such things as social graces weren't getting in the way. "Not enjoying the party?"

The cyclizar huffed, stretching to her full height to bask in the moonlight before turning to regard the mansion she had just slipped from with a dismissively glance. "It is nice being able to celebrate Halloween properly but a masquerade? Really?"

"It's not that bad..." Deryn trailed off, sharing the weremon's sentiment even if they wouldn't admit it. A masquerade to strengthen ties with their new world? The implications were questionable at best, especially considering how obvious the locals unease with their 'monstrous' appearances had been. Though so far the event itself had been pretty tame.

Before either could argue further a howl echoed from the nearby forest and not the weremon kind, this one was pure terror or pain neither could be sure which. Tracking the sound brought them face to face with Sirius, the strange mew that had been haunting their team since the dungeon craze started. Despite being smaller than both of them, even in his transformed state, the mythical hybrid was unnerving as he crouched over his prey and glared up at these intruders to his fun.

"Go away," The creature's voice had an unnatural lilt, neither vampire nor weremon, as he bristled at them before securing his prey and vanishing in a pale lavender flash.

"Little rat," Revna hissed, giving the spot s disgusted sniff before turning back towards the mansion. "He's hardly helping matters with such ridiculous antics."

"Maybe he's just having fun."

"There's nothing 'fun' about it," The alpha weremon glowered down at her companion before dropping back to all fours and flicking her tail irritably. "I'll report the unwelcome guest, why don't you find some food?"

The sneasler sniffed, suppressing a snicker as they agreed and slipped back inside without another word.

Finding Kestrel was easy, the scent of the non were/vamps stuck out like a sore thumb, and Revna gave her report with a grumble before slinking away again to trail along the edge of the crowd toward the snack tables.

There Deryn was already piling two plates high with snacks and treats, only offering a glance as acknowledgement as they picked through the offerings before nodding to the drink tables. "Punch?"

"Sure," she moved closer to the punch bowl and snagged two cups, flicking her tail towards a quieter corner as the vampire finished with the food.
