Ever-evolving overview of my Chams’ lore! The pacing is choppy and several parts need to be refined, please take this as a substitute for the 1.1k words I’d otherwise have to send via Discord or smth LMFAO

Author's Notes

Tw for mentions of death, cannibalism, and human experimentation (never explicitly discussed)

They all consider themselves siblings, despite Oliver being the only one not related by blood. He technically belongs to the Eve Family, a particularly powerful family of Chimereons in the political, financial, magical, and arguably the religious world

The other siblings were estranged from their family for reasons I haven’t figured out yet, I’m really super unsure??? Oliver, despite being the youngest of the Eve Family, lacked any magic abilities. As such, he took solace in what he unknowingly thought to be the easy route, *the* Luscia Montanye-Loftus, one of the foremost wielders and researchers of magic and how it coincided with science

Luscia essentially raised them, and took particular care in honing their magic abilities :0!! Of the four, Leviathan and Titan were really the only ones who showed any magical prowess; Bri seemed completely out, and Oliver just didn’t have the grit

Despite her efforts at parenting, Luscia really wasn’t looking to make a happy family. Her goal was to turn herself into the most powerful Chimereon in history

She not infrequently tested various methods of magic enhancement on her kids. Chimereons have an item called “Dirt Pearls” that are basically magic hunks of dirt, I imagine she force fed these to them, gave them small doses of her own magic, etc. etc.

Most of the time the experiments were flukes and just left a bad taste in her kids’ mouths, but some left real, permanent mental/physical damage. Because of how few and far between these incidents were, none of that really understood the gravity of it (plus at most they were like 17-18??).

The breaking point, however, was her experiment on Titan and Bri. Luscia had assumed that because of their genetic makeup, she could use Titan’s magic to enhance whatever it was that was lying in Bri. The resulting energy from the temporary mix of their powers put an immense strain on their bodies, and they couldn’t be extricated in time. Titan died in the resulting accident, and Bri suffering permanent damage to her body and psyche; BUT. She did get powers (Magic manifestation)

I’m not like. 110% sure how I’ll execute this transition, but after discovering this, Leviathan was overcome with rage and challenged Luscia. In theory she should’ve lost, being like 1/3 of Luscia’s age and significantly weaker, however SOMETHING allowed her to beat her, probably her advantage of trapping Luscia in her pocket dimension?? I’ve also been playing with the idea of a timeloop where Leviathan just kept fighting her and kept dying until she had her moves memorized? Big fan of that, just need to execute the emotional response properly

Luscia’s death left just Oliver, Bri, and Leviathan. They were largely separated from the outside world and Bri was far from strong enough to face it. They spent several years together, building off what they’d learned :0!!

Leviathan used her powers of telepathy and divination to make powerful friends and climb up the social ladder. Even now she takes immense pride in her rags to riches story, though she rarely discusses it amongst her hoity-toity circles. She built up an extensive network of luxury hotels, entertaining the upper echelon in the hopes of expanding her grasp. Her crown jewel is The Kingfisher’s Nest, an underground hotel and casino famous for rich entertainment, delicious food, and high bettings

While she was able to create a comfortable life for her and Bri, though every day she was haunted by the death of her mentor, yet even more so she was haunted by her life. Her research. Leviathan found herself moving towards a similar path

Oliver, on the other hand, used his powers to carve out a unique life for himself. His family was well acquainted with the macabre and the dead, so it’s not a HuGe surprise that he discovered his power

Maybe Luscia gave it to him as a last ditch effort in the event of her early demise, but he had the power of necromancy. He discovered this after a chicken meal opened the door for him to resurrect poultry, and soon he discovered the same went for Chimereons. Those he raised weren’t necessarily fully formed? He couldn’t bring back Chimereons-Chimereons, just imitations of living creatures that *adored* him. Slowly he built up this group of the undead, forming a cult with himself as the leader. By night he serves as their cannibal leader, eating the (hopefully) dead bodies of Chimereons to spread his army farther. By day, he spends his time exchanging sweet nothings over champagne and hors d’oeuvres in an attempt to ignore what he’s done and what he was meant to be used for

Bri, meanwhile, was doing everything in her power to never depend on anyone for any reason outside her own free will. She only wanted to be happy with people she *chose* to be happy with, as depending on/being in others’ debts had nearly ruined and nearly ended her life. Leviathan set her up with a job at Elysium and she’s working hard to carve out her own life!! She has her own house, a stable job, and she works really hard to have a good support network. She takes a huge interest in cryptozoology and dreams of having her own show/podcast/etc. about her findings, though for now she’s content exploring the nearby woods! Despite being my most rped with/used character, I’m still trying to work out more depth in her, particularly in the way her childhood shaped her :0!!

Silly fun facts

Bri’s name before she transitioned was Behemoth! So it went Leviathan, Titan, and Behemoth. Titan’s chosen name, had he survived, would’ve probably been Malachite, which was actually his name before I decided to go with the *hulking* vibe for their names!!

Bri saw her transition as a sort of separation from everyone who hurt/abandoned her, and her self-selected name reflects that.

Leviathan cares deeply for her family ancestry and thus kept her name out of loyalty to that

Luscia’s named after the Montanye guy from the Princess Bride (for fun) and Elizabeth Loftus, the famed psychologist who did these fascinating studies on false memories!! Would highly recommend looking into her stuff. Luscia’s power of manipulating memories is taken directly from Loftus’s study :D
