Lore Bits and Ideas

You walk through a cave. It has been long and dark and even your flashlight is struggling with what soon enough begins to feel like a magical darkness. You have to walk slow, your hand constantly on the wall to keep yourself steady and from crashing into things. It's quiet. Eerily so, in fact. Only the occasional drip of water in the distance being heard, echoing against the walls which makes it hard to pinpoint where you're moving towards. It feels claustrophobic, yet the sounds suggest the cavern is of quite some size.

At one point it feels like you've been walking for at least a days worth of time. Your legs begin to grow tired and your mind has long since begun to believe this cavern will be your casket. You halt for a moment, exhaling into a heavy sigh. There was no longer any back, nor forward, only onward.

Just as you're about to give in to your fate you hear it. The small chime of a little bell. It's faint, clear and soft. Hard to catch as it, like every other sound, echoes through the walls. However to you it's a lifeline. A light in the darkness. You desperately attempt to follow it. It takes a lot of hard work, but you stumble about with a purpose now. A single, all encompassing goal... To find the source of the sound. To find your light.

You don't know how much time have passed since the sound first appeared, but it doesn't matter. It has become an obsession by now. The sound ringing in your mind as you continue onwards. Always onwards.

Then, out of the absolute blue, it stops. You stop, remain still for a long while as you strain to find any source of sound... but there's none. "Hello?" You call out, hoping that the creature might be nearby. Once... Twice... Thrice... You let go off the wall and take a step, which almost immediately makes you stumble over a rock and crash headfirst into the ground.

That's when you see it. The first twinkle of light. A single star, just above you. Then another. Then another. One by one the starry night sky reveals itself to you and you almost cry with relief. You've found your way out of the cavern. Star after star after star popping up, all clustered together, but you don't think too much about it. You're just about to push yourself back onto your feet when the eyes open.

It's sudden and unexpected. Four large, purple eyes shining among the stars. Wide, unblinking at first, simply staring at you for a long while. Then it blinks. Like an uneven ripple across what should be a face. The bell-like sound reappear. Chiming and clirring like the laughter of a child. That's when you realize you've been tricked. Lured into the creatures web and you have no way out.

It begins to move.
