Things have changed, for the better for both Koa and Dua.

It would be a seemingly usual day for Koa, a day off at that, and he was planning to spend it with his at-the-time girlfriend, Dua. Little did he know, that she had something significant to tell him. He had received a phone call from her just a few minutes later, Dua sounded like she was in a slight rush, yet was calm.

“No, just come over, it’s about our relationship,” Dua said, upon Koa’s questioning of her current state, before hanging up. Koa was curious about what she had to tell him. Was it that they would go further in their relationship… or was it the worst possible option of a breakup? He wouldn’t find out if he didn’t go though, so Koa hurried over to Dua’s place. Upon arriving, he knocked on the door, waiting a bit outside of the colorful house. A bunny-like Telepachu opened the door, having sighed.

“Dua! What did you have to tell me??” Koa was already up and curious about what she had to say, but she simply pushed him inside, leaving his questions not answered. Dua motioned him to go sit down on the couch across from the armchair she had begun to settle herself into. Koa sat down on the couch as Dua took a deep breath before beginning to speak.

“I’ll be frank with you Koa, I don’t think this is going to work.” That phrase instantly set worry in Koa’s mind, but he decided to hear her out, at least once. Maybe there is more to this, maybe he did something wrong that he could fix… but soon he’d find it isn’t like that.

“I’m not what you need, and I’ll try my best to explain why. First, I want to point out something about yourself, now this isn’t your fault mind you, but you are what someone might call ‘high maintenance’, now this is likely due to the fact you do need to be taken care of, but I’ll get into why this is important, understand?” Dua asked, looking Koa right in the eyes. He just simply slowly nodded, despite only half understanding exactly what she meant.

“Why that’s important to point out is that I simply cannot meet your needs given my job. You need someone who’d be able to give more of their attention to you, or at least, being attentive to you as a person, and not seeing you just as someone popular and as a status icon.” She had paused for a moment, getting up to grab two bottles of water, and setting one down on the coffee table for Koa before sitting back down.

“I also believe you’d benefit from getting to know someone, before jumping at it, y’know? I mainly say this not only for helping you in the case of not being used as a status icon but also because of people possibly just using you for their physical pleasure.” Dua looked at Koa, hoping he’d take in just a little bit.

“I think I understand but… I kinda don’t know what you are getting at.” Koa scratched his head, he didn’t think this was how he’d get a breakup like this, as usually they hurt pretty badly, but he couldn’t help but feel like this wasn’t as painful.

“I guess what I am trying to tell you is that you need someone who can take care of you, but will also love you for well, you. I do love you, don’t get me wrong, but I also don’t feel like it’s particularly romantic.” Dua sighed, at least she knew what she was doing and saying. Koa doesn’t seem to be all that distressed with this method of breaking up, leaving possibly some semblance of hope in him to try and find true love.

“I will say that we just better work as friends if that is all fine with you.” She noticed Koa’s ears and tail perked right up when she mentioned that.

“Yes, that’s fine actually!” Koa said excitedly, at least he didn’t lose someone entirely. Sure, it was still a breakup but if what Dua is saying is true… then someone perfect for him exists out there. He couldn’t help but imagine someone like what Dua was saying, this daydreaming got interrupted however when she began to speak again.

“Well, it’s good at least that you’re pretty calm about this. Uhm, so, can I offer you a little bit of pasta while you’re here? I made some earlier, and you’re probably hungry.” She said as she watched Koa excitedly get up with a slightly audible ‘Really?” with him quickly going to the table when looking at him for a bit. The pasta was essentially their lunch, no?

After a bit of discussion about their futures, Koa decided to make his way home, giving a quick hug to Dua right at the door. Before he got too far, he stopped after hearing her shout.

“Hey! Text me if you need any advice or anything! I could probably help!” Koa responded positively with a loud ‘I will!” before running right back home. Dua couldn’t help but release a sigh of relief, she’s glad that he took it well, he even looked quite hopeful for the right person. She luckily didn’t have to wait too long.

“So… that’s how you guys met?” Dua looked at the horse before her, not expecting someone who was an idol’s fan to look this good. Koa eagerly nodded, clinging tightly to the taller man’s arm, becoming inseparable from him.

“Well, Ruffian, did Koa jump the gun or anything if y’know what I mean.” She asked, tossing a water bottle right at Ruffian as he sat on the couch right next to Koa.

“Oh, no, not really. I mean, he made advances but… we didn’t really actually do anything that intimate until a bit after we even started dating.” He casually answered, shooting an awkward glance at Koa, thinking back to that time of the sleepover.

“Heyy… you can’t blame me for that when people usually take me to their places for that!” Koa playfully pouted at the taller man, as he continued to rub his cheek on Ruffian’s shoulder. Dua simply stared at the two, coming to realize they were truly affection incarnate. She went to sit in her armchair, watching the sickeningly sweet couple before her.

“Well, that’s good at least, I did tell him to avoid doing that so close to the first meeting. Sounds like you guys are pretty happy. If anything, I didn’t think Koa would find someone who had fit the description.” Dua said, laughing a little, Ruffian was a little surprised.

“Description??? Really??” Ruffian looked at Koa with a questioning gaze, seemingly wanting an explanation out of him. Luckily, he didn’t have to wait long to get some sort of answer.

“Haha, I was the one who actually described the kind of person he’d need.” She responded, noticing Ruffian expression shift, and she continued.

“Someone who was caring and attentive to Koa, treating him like an actual person!” Dua just simply smiled, as the horse’s expression turned into surprise. He thought about how that kind of does sound like him. It was quite a pleasant surprise to know he was the kind of person that Koa needed as a romantic partner, after all, the two had a kind of awkward start.

“So uhm, mind telling me then why it took this idiot so long to tell me about it??” Ruffian just asked Dua, staring right at Koa, causing the cat to sweat.

“I guess he forgot, but also he isn’t the brightest.” She simply sighed, knowing full well that it was both.

“I am quite aware…” It was heartwarming to Dua to see that Koa had someone who could tend to his needs. She is also quite surprised about how they complete each other, only becoming aware of Ruffian’s self-esteem issues quite earlier. She’d probably say they’re both kind of high maintenance, however… much to her dismay. It was a fun day as she saw the couple off, as it was nice seeing her friend had found someone truly up his alley. He seemed so happy, if anything, she would say happier than he was with her. Just another victory for a usually successful matchmaker.
