Doll’s Detailed Backstory

Doll is strange. It’s interests lie primarily in the morbid and adorable, and it has always been the way it is. People have a tendency to assume it is the way it is due to some horrible accident, but really, it’s one of the more secure, happy pilots. 

Doll grew up alone with her father, a kindly old doll-maker. He didn’t give it it’s name, but doll instead chose to take on the name to honour it’s father after it became a pilot. She was a happy child, if strange and often standoffish, and found a similar passion for art as her dad. She barely attended high school, instead preparing to take over her fathers business, although he was much more of a business man then them. They are selectively mute, using sign language to communicate most often and occasionally other methods too, her father is hard of hearing and so he taught her.

When doll is seventeen, their father’s health begins to drastically decline. They can’t afford the healthcare, and doll doesn’t really want to become a shop owner, so she decides to enter into the pilot program on the off chance she’s chosen. She is, of course, chosen, and officially starts her new life when she’s eighteen.

Now, she acts as something of a funeral director for the pilots, crafting intricate dolls of each new pilot, and using them to provide a funeral when their bodies aren’t recoverable or are sent to their families without the pilots being able to say goodbye. While everyone gets a doll, those doll grows to like get further gifts. Clothes for them, their doll, small trinkets and even more dolls, this is doll’s love language. It’s father is still alive, and well cared for thanks to it’s pilot pay-out. He wishes doll was closer, but they call and write often and he understands and supports her.

Doll itself is a deeply weird being, but not at all turbulent. They are very emotionally intelligent, although they also know their limits and boundaries. They don’t have a malicious or vengeful bone in their body, and appear to almost never be affected by anything. Despite this, they are friendly with almost all the pilots, and probably the most well liked and respected out of any of them. Though, their best friend is probably sawyer, as the two were partners since almost the beginning and Doll loves them dearly. Although they’re both weird, sawyer is widely disliked due to being obnoxious and off putting.
