Wasabi - Descent - Doomsday Event

CAST: Wasabi
Author: AberrantKapro (me)

After surviving the scary encounter with the dacents patrolling the premises, Wasabi somehow managed to make his way deeper into the overgrown area. He was still very cautious and afraid he'd stumble upon one of the aggressive herbivores but luckily he could just grapple onto pipes or plants close to the ceiling again if necessary, so if he was spotted it wouldn't be the end of the world. It was a very densely grown area now for the most part, though some rooms had been completely dessemated and empty of any vegetation by now, to no one's surprise surely. With so many herbivores roaming around, supply would surely go down over time, and Wasabi had no way of knowing how long they had even been loose in here to forage.

Normally, the flier would never really contemplate any vegetation for food, but seeing as he most likely wouldn't be able to find much fish in here, he was trying to find whatever vegetables or fruits were looking the most appetizing.

He landed promptly on the floor next to a rather big patch of pumpkins and gourds, in the distance there were also some watermelons and grapes growing, but for now, Wasabi was only interested in the bright orange vegetables in front of him.

With his serrated beak, he did his absolute best to scrape the pumpkin open, but it was nearly impossible. Temporarily giving up, he made an attempt on a gourd with even less success. Frustrated, he looked around for something he could maybe use as a tool, and he found a somewhat pointy piece of concrete laying nearby, thankfully loose thanks to roots having completely broken the floor while breaking through. He managed to make a dent deep enough to place the concrete somewhat steady, and grabbed another piece with his feet and did his best to fly up through the vegetation. Doing his very best at aiming, he threw the second concrete piece at the first one in the pumpkin, and it did break a little more. Excited that his plan was working, he repeated this a few times before it looked beat up enough to maybe break into.

Wasabi pushed the two concrete pieces away and once again started scraping and gnawing on the pumpkin, finally managing to break through it. He started eating some or the softer inside, but wasn't too keen on the flavor or texture. He was at that point rather frustrated that all his efforts had been for nothing and grumpily made his way over to some other stuff that was presumably edible. He marched over on the floor as the vegetation made it difficult to fly around in here, and he carefully picked a grape. It didn't taste much at all, he thought, so he gobbled down a lot of them until he felt full enough to keep going. It felt like a win, not having to endure any nasty food just to survive, so he was quite happy to now push through the plants.

Unfortunately, he was still unable to fly due to a lot of thick foliage both coming from.the ceiling and the ground, and the walls were almost completely covered in places too. He stopped by a large, flowering bush, which was covered in small, white flowers. They were so small and pretty and were growing in small clusters.

The smell of them was very sweet, but not overwhelmingly so, and he felt at ease. He really enjoyed both the scent they emitted, but also how they looked.

Hearing some rustling in the leaves ahead, Wasabi snapped out of his flower admiration. He couldn't let his guard down like that again, one tail swipe from a dacen would most certainly kill him, and most likely it would result in a slow and painful one rather than something instantaneous. He didn't like the thought of that at all, so he cautiously started climbing the wall nearby to then keep climbing in the safety of the ceiling. He couldn't see or hear anything right now, but decided to keep climbing up there to be safe for as long as possible.

Well out of that room, the vegetation started to slowly thin out. There were still a huge amount of different plants all over the place, but they weren't growing as cramped or tight as in the previous room. Many plants were also much smaller and hence presumably younger.

Both the walls, ceiling and floor were pretty cracked up from all the roots making room for themselves, and it did make the green tropeo a little paranoid that the whole complex would crumble down with him still inside. He definitely wouldn't want that to happen, what a tragic place to pass on. And even more so, what a tragic way to go out. He shook the thoughts out of his otherwise rather empty head. Thinking like that surely wasn't doing him any good.

He's looking around for a little bit, listening and looking out for possible threats, but quickly comes to the conclusion that the coast is clear. He lands down on the floor and starts looking through a bunch of boxes and drawers of a desk. At first, he finds nothing of interest, but entering a small side room he hits a jackpot. Gigantic bags of seeds that could probably last him for a couple of days if necessary, what a great find he thought to himself.

Not that he was particularly hungry anymore, seeing as he had recently water some grapes, he still had an urge to to snack some, so the flier excitedly ripped the bag open and snacked on a small scoop of seeds. He honestly enjoyed the texture on his tongue more than anything, but it was also nutritious and beneficial for him. As he wanted the seeds to last for long, in case he came back at all that was, he decided against eating any more of them and started to get going again, heading back out in the bigger room he came from earlier.

Once again looking around to make sure he's safe from any dacens, or other possible intruders of their territory, the curious tropeo starts climbing on some shelves to see if he can find some fun souvenirs to bring with him once he actually leaves this horrible place. There are mostly just old, boring tools and some moth-eaten papers, books and clothes lying around. While rustling around, dust kept flying up into his nostrils, and inevitably, a massive sneeze escaped the young tropeo. As unfortunate as he is, he manages to book his head in the wall while sneezing and was thanks to that in massive pain. He gently rubbed his pulsating forehead in frustration, there was no blood or anything, but he was certain that he would get a massive bump there in the morning, great.

Before causing himself any more harm, he decided to jump down and he flopped down somewhat gracefully, protecting himself from hurting his legs by flapping his wings just before hitting the ground.

Well down, he did find something fun tucked behind some big monstera deliciosa leaves, a bright yellow measuring tape. His eyes widened in excitement as he nabbed it out from its hiding spot and he started to playfully flail it around as if it was a delicious snake. He repeatedly threw it up in the air and happily hopped around it when it landed, and he kept at it for a few minutes before getting tired of it.

Despite wanting to bring it, Wasabi decided against it for now, and he started making his way deeper into the greenhouse for some further exploration. He could freely fly in the next room, which was a delight, though he was still in pain and a bit dizzy from hitting his head. That dizziness combined with his lingering nausea from his radiation sickness was enough for him to decide it was time for a longer break, and just in time too.

He heard some heavy steps slowly getting louder and flew up on a mostly overgrown shelf that could both serve as shelter and protection as well as a nice place to sleep all his I'll ailments off as best as his body could heal them.

He placed himself behind leaves as best as he could to be as hidden as possible as he looked down, and out from some thick foliage wandered a dacen, who seemed to be rather tense and definitely displeased about something. Wasabi swallowed nervously. Despite knowing he was way out of reach he couldn't help but be afraid of the big herbivore, as all he had seen previously had proven to be extremely aggressive. He sat in silence while not letting the big dinosaur go with his gaze, but after not too long, the herbivore made its way out of the room and out of Wasabi's sight. He sighed in relief and laid down to properly relax and hopefully get some sleep. He needed a break and was hoping that when he would wake up, all the pain and nausea would be gone.
