Toothless’s primary—sole—concern was finding his soulmate. Nothing else mattered to him than making sure that she’s okay and that they’re together.

The moment he realized that they’d been separated after going through the rift together from their world, he hadn’t cared about the novelty of being in a new world.

Who cares about such a thing when the one most precious to you is not beside you?

Which is why he had instantly started searching for her, even though everything was disorienting and he wasn’t used to his new body, let alone knew what it looked like. He searched even in the scariest of locations in his search for his soulmate, he was willing to go anywhere and do anything to get to her - because he knows that as lost as he feels in this world, she is bound to feel the same, if not worse.

Despite his various fears, which only grow in number as time passes and he does not find his soulmate.

Eventually, Toothless hears a cry for help, the voice is an unmistakable one. He would know it anywhere, in any life.

“Amanda Lynn,” he cries out, rushing without thought or care towards where he had heard her cry out.

He found her and skidded to a halt, a chill rushing through his veins and freezing the blood inside them instantly at the sight before him.

His soulmate is standing on a frozen lake, which is cracking beneath her paws. For some reason he can’t figure out, she’s clutching a bunch of feathers tightly.

“Toothless,” she excitedly exclaims, momentarily forgetting her predicament as she bounds forward excitedly.

“Sweetheart, stay there and don’t move, the ice is cracking and you could fall in,” he tells her, before grabbing a nearby tree sapling in his mouth and scoots himself across the ice until the sapling is straining. He makes himself as long as he can and hopes that his tail reaches his beloved so that she can grab on.

The distinct sound of the ice cracking further makes Toothless tense. With the weight of them both and so close at that, makes him certain that the ice will give way beneath them if they’re not quick about getting off of it.

Her teeth tentatively bite down in his tail, he can tell she doesn’t want to do this - hurt him. He waits until her tentative grip tightens to something he feels confident is strong enough for him to get her out of this situation.

Scrabbling at the ground to make purchase, Toothless manages to get enough traction to dig his paws in and start hauling both of them to shore.

When he was far enough that he could let go of the sapling clenched in his jaws. Looking back, he discovered that Amanda Lynn still had the feathers tightly grasped within her tail.

“Thank you for getting me out of there,” she says, smiling at him appreciatively, “are you okay?”

“Sweetheart,” he began, voice overflowing with a swath of different emotions as he pressed his face into the fur of her neck, “what was so important about these feathers that you were out in such a dangerous place?”

“Feathers are really important in this world, the locals have to go through trials just to get them. Some guy, I think Benji was his name? Said I had to prove my might in order to get feathers? Anyway, I was looking for feathers and I saw these absolutely perfect ones for us. Look,” she laid out the feathers on the snow on the ground before them. As soon as Toothless saw the design on them, he knew why they had been so important to her to grab.

Nuzzling her, he confessed, “They are perfect, I love them, but that was terrifying to me. I don’t know what I’d do if I lost you, if you’d fallen beneath the ice and I couldn’t find you or save you. If I… lost you.”

“You’d find me again,” she reassures him as she nuzzles him back, “you always do.”

They stayed like that for awhile, just wrapped up in each other, needing the other close to them now that they had been reunited.

“I was so worried when I realized you weren’t beside me on this side of the rift,” he confessed.

“Me too, but I knew you’d come looking for me, that’s why I decided to find us some feathers.”

Toothless chuckled, “I suppose we’ll need to see this Benji character you mentioned and bring the feathers with us?”

“I think so? I was told we had to get feathers before we could be joined together in this world as mates.”

Toothless scowled slightly, not appreciating the existence of a boundary between him and making Amanda Lynn his mate, wife, or any other term by which to describe being bonded together. However, he’d happily jump through any hoops just to be bound to her again in another world or in another life.

Twining his tail with hers, he smiled, “Let’s get this out of the way then so we can be bound together in whatever way that is done in this world.”

“You’re just excited to marry me again,” she teased, giggling slightly.

“Mmm, yes. I’d happily marry you in any lifetime and any world. Being bound to you is how I’m meant to be,” he answered.

“Me too,” she reciprocated, giving him and affectionate kiss on the cheek before leading him away - presumably towards the next chapter of their new lives.
