Blossom's Future

When Blossom grows up, she wants to live with the wild cats - but she doesn't want to leave her housefolk, either.

She wants to hunt, and run through the snow, and feel the wind through her fur, the way she does when she wanders into the yard. But she still wants to return home in the night, and curl up cozy and warm with her housefolk. She still wants to wear her jingly little collar, and play with her toys.

She hasn't considered how this might work - in her little kitten mind, it would be easy. She would head out into the sparkling snow, under the clear blue sky, and join her fellow cats for the daily activities, whatever it was that they did. Hunt and play in the snow, probably. When her legs became weary and her friends tucked in to sleep, she would return home to her loving housefolk, warm in their blankets.

It sounded wonderful. The perfect mix between two lives - one exciting and fulfilling, one safe and familiar. She didn't think about how she would hunt with a jingling bell on her collar, or how her housefolk would feel if she got trapped out overnight by a blizzard. She didn't consider the dangers, or how the wild cats might feel about living with a permanent kittypet.

But she didn't have to worry about that, not yet. For now, she could dream, of catching birds and furry creatures under the wide blanket of stars, of growing up alongside her housefolk's kits. Of living like the legends her mother had taught her, while living with the comfortable life her mother had worked to give her.

Blossom's future is full of uncertain dreams - but she will try her best to make them her reality.
