Gabriel had been surprisingly busy. Once the news was out, that he owned what could only be classified as a nesting sanctuary, dragons would show up from far and wide, looking for a place to nest. This also came with risks, some of the dragons that showed up weren’t there for happy times but were there instead to steal eggs or even to eat them. That was one of the many stresses of Gabriel’s life but luckily he had dragons of his own that helped him keep a lookout for ones looking to cause grief.

Recently almost all of his current dragons had banded together to chase the biggest dragon Gabriel had ever seen out of the sanctuary. They managed to do it but some had become injured in the process, Licore, his most cockiest dragon, had been the most injured. He had seen the dragon first and had let out an alarm call and flew straight at the behemoth. He didn’t care about a lot of things but deep down, the sanctuary would always be the thing he cared for most, his rider was also there. He had distracted the dragon long enough for the others to appear and he did well. He was currently confined to one of the…Barns? It was sort of a barn. Over time, as the sanctuary expanded Gabriel had added more and more to his breeding haven. The hatchery had been made especially bigger and the barns had different uses, there was an infirmary, where Licore was currently resting, and a nesting one, in case some dragons felt more safe in closed and around other like minded dragons.

Gabriel had been even busier after the scrimmage, tending to his injured dragons and then all dragons currently nesting. His dragon Apophis, had carried him to the furthest part of the sanctuary and anywhere else he needed to go, except spots where he knew the nesting dragon(s) didn’t like other dragons around. Then he spotted her, a rather large dragon, circling above part of the sanctuary, glancing down every once in a while as if waiting for something. Then she spotted him and Apophis and dived, Gabriel almost panicked but she slowed as she came closer and landed with a thump. She spoke but Gabriel could not understand her but Apophis was more than happy to translate. “She heard about you from other dragons you have helped. She is carrying her first clutch of eggs and the father left and never returned. She does not know whether he meant to leave or something bad had happened to him. She feared something might happen to her if she didn’t find a safe place to nest comfortably. She’s never built a nest either and needed help. So here she is, can you help her?”

Gabriel listened intently, nodded as he did. “Of course I can and will. What…type of dragon are you? If you don’t mind me asking…” Apophis once again translated, “She is a dark and water hybrid.” Gabriel nodded again, he knew a good nesting place where she should feel safe and protected, so he led her to the place, a dark cave, the pregnant dragon was skeptical at first, the tight tunnels barely big enough to fit her large frame and then it opened up into a beautiful cave with a large deep pond in it. There were crystals all around and seemed to shine even though there was no source of light, they lit up the whole cave. Excitedly she slipped into the water, letting out a sigh of happiness. “You rest here, I will build you a nice comfortable nest.” The dragon looked at him, her eyes glimmering with gratitude. So off Gabriel went, Apophis close behind him, “Fetch God and Gaia I will need some extra hands.” With a whirl of wind, Apophis was flying away, quickly returning with the two bipedal dragons. “I need large amounts of moss, bracken, sticks, the ones you can easily bend and are soft, and lots and LOTS of feathers. “ The two dragons nodded and away they went, once they were gone Apophis dropped something at his feet, one of his big bags. “Thank you. I need to go to Strogan’s pond.” He climbed upon the anchor that hung from the big dragon and she gently lifted into the air, traveling across the sanctuary until he reached a large pond, filled with fish and one crocodile but you could only see the top of its head. Unlike a normal crocodile it had horns, Gabriel and Apophis landed and warmly greeted the crocodile, “Strogan I need fish and lots of them, please,” The crocodile dragon, without a word or disturbance of the water dipped down below the surface and reappeared minutes later with an absolutely obnoxious amount of fish, she dropped them on the land, a foot or two from the ponds edge and quickly Gabriel scooped all the wriggling creatures into his large, waterproof bag and quickly zipped it shut. Hopefully this was enough to satisfy the newcomer, so she can have a nice long nap, with a nice full belly. Apophis brought him back to the cave entrance where Gaia and God stood waiting. In all Gaia’s hands and mouth she held bundles of feathers, some dull and others colorful. In two colossal hands, God held moss, in the other two he held sticks, he set everything down in front of the vernid and the pile was much MUCH taller than he was. This would definitely be enough to make the right sized nest. With help from Apophis and Gaia, unfortunately God was too big to even fit his head in the cave, they got all the nesting materials into the cave. Gabriel had stopped to dump the large pile of live wriggling fish on the edge of the pond, which was big enough to call a lake, and the new dragon gobbled them up like a starved dog.

After that, Gabriel began to construct the nest, happy for Gaia and Apophis’ help. It took them a rather long time, stacking the sticks, weaving them together in a flat-ish bowl shape Gabriel had carefully lined the nest with thick bracken and the soft feathers and moss. After hours of work, it was complete, Gabriel stood, admiring his work, a nest the perfect size for the new dragon. He turned to her eager eyes watching him excitedly. “Go on, give it a try.” With a nod she exited the water, the drops seeming to fall right off her and she was surprisingly dry. She climbed into the nest feeling the softness of it, walking in a small circle, then almost collapsing into it. Her eyes fluttered closed and she was asleep. Gabriel smiled kindly, ushering his dragons quietly out of the sleeping dragon's cave into the bright sunlight. This was definitely another job well done.
