While Mimosa was more skilled in savory dishes, she wouldn't let that stop her from making something her mate would love. Absinthe was a huge fan of chocolate, and Mimosa was hoping to make a box of chocolates for him. She had never made special chocolates before, but she had made plenty of chocolate flavored treats for him. Cakes, cookies, pies, even cocktails on occasion.

This would be her first experiment with real chocolate, having looked up dozens of videos of instructions on how to do it, Mimosa felt tentatively confident about it. She was excited to start, and even more excited to see Absintheis reaction.

Of course, she would include standard flavors like orange, hazelnut, and caramel, but after the bouquet Absinthe gave her, Mimosa decided she would have to include a few unpleasant flavors as well. Hot chill, salt, and pickle were some of the flavors she came up with to ruin his fun.

Mimosa started by unwrapping the chocolate bars, breaking them into small pieces that would be easier to melt down. Next, she heated up the cream, and poured it over the chocolate to melt into a smooth consistency.

She pulled out her mold, it was a simple set of six heart shapes, a bit larger than a standard chocolate bonbon, but that would suit Absinthe just fine. Mimosa brushed a bit of gold powder food glitter into each mold, making sure to highlight the peaks in each. Once that was done, she poured a bit of the melted chocolate into each mold, before turning it upside down over the bowl, letting the excess chocolate drip out of the mold, leaving a thin shell inside. She repeated this a few times, building up a thicker shell with each layer of chocolate, until she felt that it was thick enough to hold the perfect amount of filling.

Next, she prepared all the fillings. First the candied orange peel and marshmallow crème, placing each part delicately into the mold. She had actually made more orange marshmallow crème than she needed, not only just in case she had to try again with this one, but also just to enjoy for herself.

The next flavor was soft hazelnut spread, with small bits of the nut spread throughout. This was the easiest to add into the mold so far, but a little warm, making her fret about weakening the structural integrity of the chocolate shell for a few minutes as she stared at it nervously.

For the last tasty filling, Mimosa made her own caramel. She put the pot of sugar on the stove, setting it to medium heat, letting the sugar melt with the occasional stir. Once it was fully melted and beautifully browned, she pulled it off the heat and added the butter. After the mixture had finished hissing and bubbling, Mimosa added the salt and cream, mixing the whole time. Once fully combined, she set it aside to cool down, not wanting a repeat of the hazelnut bonbon melting the shell.

While the caramel cooled, Mimosa chopped the chilis. She made sure to pick dried red chilis, which she knew from experience were quite spicy. She mixed the chopped peppers and their seeds into a fruit jelly Absinthe had given her, letting the spicy mix together with the sweet, which would hopefully create a delayed reaction in her mate. She piped the mixture into the third chocolate shell with a giggle, excited to see how he would react.

The next bonbon would probably be the worst one: salt flavor. She carefully mixed salt and a tiny bit of water into a paste, then pushed it into the empty mold, grimacing at the idea.

At that point, the caramel was cool enough to pour into the mold, and delicious enough for it to be hard for Mimosa not to eat the whole bowl of it.

Finally, she was at the last bonbon flavor: pickle. Mimosa knew Absinthe would hate her for this, but it would be so funny that it should be worth it. She took the pickle jar out, selecting a couple spears to use. She patted them dry with a towel before dicing them as small as she could get them. Once she was satisfied with the tiny bits of pickle, she scraped it into the last mold, filling it generously.

Grinning, Mimosa went to reheat the tempered chocolate so she could seal each of the molds. Once she sealed them, she knew she wouldn't remember which chocolate was which flavor, adding to the mystery of the ordeal. Once the chocolate was at the perfect consistency again, she spooned a little over each mold until they were just overfilled enough to begin doming.

Mimosa scraped the remaining chocolate into a bowl with a lid, so she could use it for something else later, maybe a fancy dessert to make up for the pain she was about to put Absinthe through. Sitting down in a stool with a sigh, she grinned at the troublesome treats, glad her partner was one who could put up with such pranks without getting too upset.

Later…
“Hey, this is for you,” Mimosa barked, blushing up to her nose as she handed the box to him.
Startled, he almost dropped it.
“Seriously?” He said, holding it out in front of him to inspect. This was strangely nice…especially after the bouquet incident.
