It had been a week into the trip to Egypt and Kakyoin had realized one thing. Recently, he caught himself gazing at Angelina a lot- her emerald green eyes, her flowing blonde hair, and her pearly pale skin. He hadn’t noticed it until Avdol pointed it out- and that’s when it all started making sense.

“Kakyoin-kun, you seem to be watching Angelina a lot,” Avdol mentioned. “Have you taken an interest in her?”

Startled by the sudden comment, Kakyoin whipped his head back towards the rest of the group and away from the chair in which Angelina sat in

“H-huh?” he stuttered. Then, regaining his composure, he continued. “What are you talking about?”

“I have noticed that you are staring at her a lot now,” Avdol explained. “Every now and then I would catch you glancing at her or even looking at her for long periods of time. I don’t think she has noticed this yet, though.”

Thank god, Kakyoin thought. What will she think of me once she realizes I’ve been acting really creepy?

“I’m sorry,” he apologized. “I didn’t realize I was doing that. It’s just... recently, she’s seemed more special to me. Angie was always great before, but something inside me is controlling me to gaze upon her.”

Closing his eyes, Avdol folded his hands in front of his face and nodded.

“Have you ever... been in love?”

That question caught Kakyoin by surprise, who replied by blinking blankly at the fortune teller.

“Huh...?”

“You probably have a crush on Angie. Do you feel any different around her?”

“I do feel my heart beating faster... and this fluttering feeling inside my stomach. Wait, then I really do have a...”

“So, what will you do about it?” Avdol asked, pointing towards Angelina. “You can confess now, later, or forever keep your silence.”

“I think I’ll just explain to her how I feel,” Kakyoin decided, standing up. “Who knows which day will be my last?”

As he made his way towards the blonde, she noticed his approach and smiled at him. Unexpectedly, Angelina stood up and stepped towards him as well.

“H-hey, Angie,” Kakyoin greeted. “Do... you have some time?”

“What a coincidence, I was going to ask the same thing!” she returned, growing slightly. Then, smiling again, she continued, “But yes. What do you want to talk about?”

“That’s okay, you can go first!” Kakyoin said, panicking internally. Had she noticed his stares? Is that why she’s confronting him?

“Right, well...” Angie lowered her voice as her cheeks flushed red. “Will you promise you won’t tell anyone this?”

“Cross my heart.”

“Okay... um... I kinda like JoJo.”

For a brief moment, Kakyoin’s mind shut down. For one, it was a good thing that she didn’t mention his staring... but a crush on Jotaro? He swore he heard a part of his heart shatter.

“Ha... I guess even you aren’t immune to his charm, right?” Kakyoin returned, masking his shaky voice with a smile.

His thoughts all swarmed together into a bundled mess of dust and anxiety. What could he do now? Surely he can’t confess... that would be ridiculous.

Without thinking, he blurted out, “I’ll make it my mission to help you to get together!”

Surprised, Angelina turned up and said, “Really? You’d do that for me?”

“You’re my best friend, why wouldn’t I?” Kakyoin replied, grinning. However, inside, he beat himself up for responding so stupidly.

Even still, he placed his hand on her shoulder and said, “I’ll help you confess by the end of this trip. Don’t worry about it!”

Giggling, Angelina threw her arms around Kakyoin’s neck (though she had to tiptoe a little to reach it) and exclaimed, “Thanks, Nori! I’m glad I can count on you!”

Maybe it’s for the best, Kakyoin thought as he hugged her back. If I help her get together with JoJo, I’d forget about my crush. This’ll work out, right?

But after all, what kind of story is interesting without being tragic?
