Chipts Pt. 5

Oceanus Aquarius, better known by his online handle “Oshy” was one of skutube’s greatest villains, the kind you loved to hate. Material he put out was often reuploaded onto drama skutube to be dissected and discussed. Often this would drive traffic to his channel, and the comments would roll in. 

People weren’t what Oshy would call polite, in those waves of comments. He also couldn’t say he had that much of a dedicated fanbase either. There were those who hate-followed him, and others who, much like him, were a whisker away from being “canceled” themselves. 

Unlike most skutubers who were on the cusp of cancellation, Oshy never had released an apology video. He knew how to, the format was easy. Make-up undone, look a little messy, bare background, red, teary eyes and a big shaky breath: Hello everyone this video isn’t going to be like the rest.

Ugh, they were the worst. If one was going to be online for the entire world to see with opinions that were controversial or generally just bad, well, it was a choice, wasn’t it?  Why bemoan your fate when all arrows pointed to the eventual conclusion?

Oshy knew what people were really like. They liked to feel smarter than others, morally superior to others, correct, right, justified in their hate and misdirect anger. The internet was an escape from the real world, an escape from all the insecurities and difficulties. You could be an entirely different person, the person you wished you could be, or the person you lacked courage to be in your real life. 

Thus, Oshy felt as though he occupied a very important role. See, people also loved to consume. They loved merchandise, a good product, a bad product, a useful one, a useless one, all they cared about was getting something that looked nice and made them feel good. So, whenever he was going to drop a collection of clothes, cosmetics, jewelry, stationary or whatever, Oceanus liked to stir the pot. 

The flurry of online activity he generated could power a large city, in his opinion, and he was stimulating the economy… of his own wallet. Although he’d never be as popular as Isra the Fallen, or have nearly a dedicated (and wealthy) fanbase as Peri-Peri Half Love Half Hate, Oceanus would also never lack for content, nor really find his income streams affected by his antics. 

It took calculated genius to ride the algorithm the way he did. 

His new video was up only 10 hours, and already there were waves of comments and reuploads and thinkpieces. He had a line of makeup coming out, and now was his time to strike. 

Oshy stuck a popsicle in his maw, and grinned around it, ready to wreak havoc in his own comments.
