caesar is one strange person. jojo has never seen anyone like him, neither from inside the lab or the other bots that were around. there is smokey, but smokey treated him much more differently than caesar does now.

for one- caesar has given him many nicknames, other than “jojo,” during their time of training. star-boy, shooting star, jo-star- it’s all stars. is it just because the “ST4R” looks like the word, or is it something more? this, he infers, but cannot be absolutely sure.

caesar also has a tendency to use strange words. words jojo has never heard before, as if caesar is speaking a completely new language. perhaps it is a byproduct of being raised so differently? jojo hypothesizes that is the case.

as for caesar’s attitude towards him, caesar treats him as if he is any other normal human being. of course he is kind, but caesar does not hold any sort of special pity or let the fact that jojo is part machine change the way he acts around him. jojo can definitely be sure this is the case, as he has observed how caesar acts around others in the lab previously. he concludes that caesar does not seem like a very biased person.

but despite all of this, he senses something off. caesar often comes home from his classes seeming tired or distressed, as the energy surrounding him darkens or moves in a way slightly differing from usual. jojo of course can only observe him quietly, watching for small changes- such as dark eyes, decreased energy, and an overall mood shift.

... he’s concerned for caesar. though caesar doesn’t mention it, there’s always something troubling his mind. he has no way of asking either, because he knows caesar doesn’t want to bring it up.

jojo remembers what caesar said that day. i’m tired of it all, you know? feeling bad every day and thinking it’ll be better, but i just return to feeling bad anyway. i can’t even make it stop. he can only watch caesar’s slumped form on the couch downing another cup of coffee.

caesar tells him not to worry about it. he tells him to forget the entire conversation and to just go on with the day.

jojo observes this many times. he infers that caesar doesn’t want to bother anyone with the troubles, so he just keeps it to himself. does this mean that anything troubling shouldn’t be shared?

so, whatever pain or emotions he’s feeling is normal, and he is in no place to discuss it. he draws a conclusion from this, and never considers the thought again.
