By Irri-kirrillee from Selene's perspective

Selene's Guest

It was a dark and rainy night, my favorite kind. Lightning flashed through my windows and it’s thunder rattled the walls. It was perfect. Who knew that it was truly one of the best nights I had ever had?

I had been taking my time in my lab. Just grinding up ingredients in preparation for the next day’s work. I heard the front door of my home being opened. I wondered if it could be the True Door, but no one should have been able to get past all the traps, tricks, and spells I had scattered about to deter unwanted guests.

I continued on with my work. This guest would surely be like all the rest: quick to tire of the games my house liked to play, at my encouragement of course, or frightened of what they saw. Most likely they would give a boring reaction regardless, and not worth my attention in the least.

I felt the house shifting around as it played with our guest, who was keeping up much better than I would have expected. My curiosity started to be piqued, but I still had much work to do. I was sure that the games would end soon anyway. I shouldn’t interrupt myself for amusements that would end too quickly.

As I put myself back to work, I heard and felt the house trying to guide the guest away from my direction. It was curious, this guest did seem to be much more stubborn than the rest. Most visitors ran away screaming and crying at this point and yet this one persevered. And they seemed to be getting closer.

My work was done and normally I would be heading to bed at this point, but the house’s sounds were much too deafening for the peaceful repose that I desired. I supposed that if this was how it was going to be all night, it was time for me to rid us of this visitor myself.

As I exited my lab, I unexpectedly came face to face with my intruder. He gasped and the iron nails that he held in his mouth clattered to the floor, and before I knew it had pulled me into an embrace.

I was so shocked I could only just stay still in his arms.

He pulled back from me and looked me over. “Woah,” He let out with a low breath and my heart tingled at the sound of his voice. “You’re the most gorgeous ghost I’ve ever seen.” He continued, “Want to haunt me and plague me with more visions of torment until I am no more than a withered husk of my former self?”

“Is, is that a proposal?” Was all I could manage to make my mouth cooperate with.

“I mean,” he said brushing my hair behind my ear. “It could be whatever you want since even if you drive me out of here, I will be haunted by you regardless.”

I couldn’t do anything to stop the blush coloring my cheeks. “You are quite forward for a trespasser.” I murmured still within his grasp.

“Ah well,” He lets me go and scratches the back of his head with a sheepish grin. “How can I not when the floss of my dreams manifested in front of me like that?” He bends down and retrieves his nails, popping the tips of them back into the corners of his mouth. “But, I don’t think you ever gave me your answer? If you want I could wait an eternity for you~” He holds out a worn and scarred hand to me.

I look down at his hand, considering his offer. “Well, I suppose, it wouldn’t hurt to haunt you for a least a little while.” I take his offered hand and he grins up at me, his dark eyes gleaming in the candle light.

“It’s an honor my Lady in White. Please call me Junji if it pleases you. I would follow you along any endless corridor you’d lead down.”

“And I am Selene, please no need for titles between us.” I lace my fingers with his, “And if its an endless corridor you wish, please this way.”

The house obliged to my wishes, and we walked all through the rest of the night.
