Up in the chilling Crystal Taiga, there was a small patch of pine trees, a little ways away from a group of frost dracos, there lived a smaller average draco and her frost draco partner lived. Keeping warm, the two dracos cuddled close as they looked down at the small egg that stayed warm between the two. “Our little egg… Do you think that our child will be fluffy like you, Eirwen?” The small female hummed as she snuggled into the fluff of her mate. A gruff grunt escaped the muzzle of the frost draco as he glanced down at the egg, “I believe our child will have your warm and loving eyes, my sweet Guinevere” He gently nudged his mate as he kept an eye on the egg, being sure it was kept warm. Guinevere looked up to the slow-falling snow, a warm smile formed as she thought about how a little one would be running around them both one day. A small chuckle escaped her lips as she thought about it, “Hm? What is so funny? Did I say something wrong?” The gruff frost draco questioned as he glanced at his mate. “Oh, honey…No no, I was simply thinking about how our little one will be such a cute sight to see when they run in this beautiful snow.” She exhaled as she leaned into the warm fluff of her partner, closing her eyes as she rested, keeping the egg warm between them both. “Rest love, I’ll be sure to keep you both warm” Eirwen purrs, glancing down to his resting mate, before shifting to the small egg being kept between them. A small proud smile grew on his face, knowing well that he and his mate were creating a warm family filled with love.

As years pass, a young little draco is seen running around and jumping into piles of snow. Popping out of the snow pile, the little draco looks up at the blue sky, curious about the world outside of the snowy mountains. “Mama?!” The small female shouts to her mother who lay under a pine tree, watching her attentively, “Noelle, no need to yell my sweet, I’m right here.” She chuckled as she pushed her body to get up and she walked over to her child, dusting off the snow from her hair, “What is it that you wish to ask me?” Noelle stared for a moment before remembering, “OH! Oh sorry, too loud, um I wanted to ask what life is like outside of the snowy mountains?” The snow-covered child asked, looking up at her mother with curiosity-filled eyes. Her mother smiled as she picked up her child out of the snow, before setting her down next to her, “Life was rather tiring, to say the least. But there are wonders you won’t see living here. Like the warm oceans in the south, the hot blazing deserts, or even the grand Eggshell citadel.” Tilting her head, the little draco sat and listened, curious, “What is that mama? The uhh Eggshell ‘sitting dell’?” She asked, doing her best to say the strange word she never heard of. “The Eggshell Citadel is my old home, the place I was born and raised. I was rather sad to leave my home but I wouldn’t have been able to have you my sweet marshmallow” she chuckled as she nuzzled her daughter, giving a gentle yet sad smile. “Ah, you have your father’s eyes… He would have loved to meet you, my sweetheart.” Noelle kept staring, watching her mother’s expression, she leaned into her mom as her words echoed through her ears. “Mama, what was Papa like?” A sad but curious tone asked from the small draco, awaiting an answer as she kneaded her paws in the snow. “He was a rough and strong frost draco, he was rather excited to see you born even though he tried his hardest to hide it.” Guinevere chuckled as she thought about his warm fur and his rough smile. Taking a deep breath as she thought about the day she had lost him, she looked down at her daughter, giving her a gentle nuzzle. “Come now, I think it is time we get warm, you are going to catch a cold.” She changed to subject as she nudged her daughter to get up to head to their little cottage home. “But Mama, I wanna keep playing and learning about Papa!” The sweet draco pouts, “Now now Noelle, maybe when you’re older I’ll tell you more. But for now, let’s get some hot chocolate.” Guinevere smiled at her daughter as she watched her eyes light up at the idea of hot chocolate.

As Noelle grew up with her aging mother, helping around their small cottage, her curiosity about her father grew bigger and bigger. Who was he? Where did he go? She had a feeling something had happened, although she wasn’t sure what. She sighed to herself, continuing to create two warm cups of hot chocolate for her mother and her, humming as she swirled the whipped cream on top. “Mama? Are you awake?” Noelle called out as she carefully picked up one of the mugs, carrying it over to her mother who was lying near the warm, glowing fire. “Hm..? Oh yes, I am still awake, my little marshmallow..” The now older draco smiled as she glanced up at her now-grown daughter, “Oh look at how you’ve grown, such beautiful eyes.” She chuckled as she sat up, she took the warm mug from her daughter’s paws, “Have I told you that you have your father’s eyes?”

Noelle chuckled and nodded as she sat down next to her mother, “Yes mama, I remember. Speaking of Papa.. Can you finally tell me more about him? Especially where he had gone?” Noelle’s voice questioned as she watched as her mother drank the drink she made her. “Your father? Oh right, I did say I would tell you when you were older and here you are, already an adult before my eyes.. Very well, get comfortable, as this story may be a lot for you..” Noelle watched as her mother placed the mug on the small wooden coffee table before taking a breath to speak once again.

“It was a frigid night that I had never experienced before. Worried for you, as a small foal, I spoke with your father about what to do... He suggested bringing us both closer to the rest of the frost dracos for warmth. I, of course, agreed and carried you to the group… But as we traveled our way closer, a pack of wolves had stopped us.” Recounting the past events of that night, Guinevere’s fur grew bigger as chills were sent down her back. Noelle watched her mother struggle to continue the story, she took her mother’s paws in hers, gently squeezing them, reassuring her that she was there for her and that she was ready to hear what happened. Guinevere nodded as she squeezed her daughter’s paws in return, looking into her daughter’s eyes as she continued, “The wolves looked somewhat starved, you could see the saliva dripping from their mouths. Your father, Eirwen, carefully watched the movements of the wolves, unsure why they’d even target us due to us being somewhat larger.”

Guinevere explained, glancing over to the cracking flames of the fireplace. “As the wolves slowly inched closer, Eirwen stood his ground, warning me to cover both your eyes and mine. From what I could hear… There were yelps and grunts, as the noise subsided I had removed my paw from my eyes. There was your father, his white and brown fur covered in blood, he looked at me with a small smile assuring me that he had gotten rid of them all.” Her voice stayed strong as she held her daughter’s paws, knowing that after that fight, she grew hesitant to even continue, “Your father… He was sure he had gotten rid of all the wolves... But yet there was something else lurking in the thick woods. Lured into the area due to the smell of blood, there was a large cat that had pounced on your father. He yelled at me to run to the other frost dracos and… and I…” Tears had slowly formed in the old average draco, remembering her sweet partner. Noelle pulled her mother into a tight hug, feeling her emotions well as well as she had a faint memory of that night. “Mama…It’s okay. It’ll be all okay, you and I are here today because of Papa… he saved us…” Noelle spoke tears building up as she remembered all the stories her mother told her about her father and about how the two fell in love. Seeing her mother ache and cry as she called out for her lost partner, Noelle only hugged her mother tighter, protecting her emotions as she let them free.

Hours had passed and a new morning had come, Noelle lay curled up next to her mother whose tears had stained her fur. Staring at the burning wood glow as the fire had died down during the night, Noelle picked up her head and looked over to her mother. “Mama…It’s time to wake up” Her voice hummed with a sweet and gentle tone, nudging her mother a bit as she waited for her mother to wake. After twenty minutes, she nudged her mother again. Then after an hour, she did it once again… Then again… Noelle sat there, in shock, tears already falling, “Mama…Wake up… Come on! This isn’t a funny joke! Come on! Wake up!!” She spoke, her voice cracking and rising into a panic as she kept shaking and nudging her mother’s body. As the panic grew, she bumped into the coffee table, knocking the now cold mug of hot chocolate to the ground, the sound of shattering echoing in her ears. “Mama….Please mama…I..What do I do now? I don’t know what to do... Mama.. Papa…” As more tears fell, trying her best to wipe them away, she looked at the mess of the mug and her mother who had passed before her. Sniffling, tears still dripping down, she gets up and walks outside to prepare a grave next to her father’s. As hours went by, Noelle put her mother properly to rest. Sitting in front of her parents' graves as the snow once again fell just like the day she was born. Knowing she had no clear place to go, perhaps this was the universe telling her to go on her journey and start her life on a new path.

Months have passed, and the small cabin has grown quiet, cold, and empty. Upon the door laid a note, “Hello! If you are reading this then that means I have left my home to travel and pursue a dream I spoke of with my mother… If you can... Do you think you can care for my parents' graves? Putting fresh flowers or simply keeping them clean. Thank you, kind traveler! Oh, feel free to use the cabin to stay warm if needed! Take care now! - Noelle, A soon to be baker”
