Vellum’s time piece chimed softly reminding him that he’d been sitting in his office for several hours now. Glaring at the sheet of paper in front of him the small kitbull gripped his pen tightly, he was attempting to write a valentines letter to his boss and best friend. Vellum scribbled angrily on the paper crossing out what they’d written before grabbing it and crumpling it into a ball and tossing onto the substantial reject pile.

Groaning Vellum leaned back in their chair. Why was this so difficult, he thought. It was for their best friend after all. They’d known each other since childhood and despite being quite different their friendship had remained steadfast. Vellum was his attendant but that had never caused them any particular issue. Gripping their pen tightly Vellum began to rewrite his greeting for the twentieth time, addressing the letter to their dear friend, letters curling over each other in Vellums delicate handwriting. They were halted after the greeting yet again, what did they want to say? They wanted to say how much they appreciated him, despite their differences. How he did truly bring so much joy to Vellum’s life with his misadventures, particularly when he brought back artifacts for them. They wanted to say that even though the two of them often disagreed, he helped Vellum see perspectives other then their own. They wanted to say that they truly loved him as their most true and steadfast friend. Thinking of their friend gave them an idea, instead of trying to write an elegant letter, Vellum scribbled down all of these thoughts, as chaotic as they were, before shoving the pages into a fine envelope and sealing it with a glob of wax.

Standing they nodded to themself, oddly happy with their mess of a letter. Certain that this would mean far more to their friend then fancy words that would surely bore him two sentences in. While the perfectionist part of Vellum had yet to cease screeching they ignored it and headed down the hall to add it to the ever growing stack of mail that their superior had yet to address. He certainly will read it in maybe a month or twos time when Vellum was finally able to get him to do some work.
