How the knowledge came to her, she did not know. Whether it was a dream, or a memory, or a vision, it didn't really matter. What mattered was Memoria had to stop the devastation she saw coming. With haste did she tell her mate, Tephillah, who listened attentively. Tephillah closed their eyes, twirling a strand of hair around their fingers as they tried to think of a solution.

"We'll need to have a shield," they said. A quiet pause filled the room as they pondered what kind of shield would work.

"A Song of Hope!" Memoria said suddenly. Their mate looked to the side as he considered this solution, the fingers twirling the strand of hair moving faster than before.

"Hmm, a Song of Hope would theoretically provide counteracting wavelengths needed to cancel out the waves from the Song of Despair, but it would need to be the right frequency and-" Tephillah paused, aware of his mind getting too into the technical aspects. "But, who would sing it? If we are to confront the one singing this song, we wouldn't be able to sing to shield the world."

Memoria's hands clasp over their chest. "We'll have to make them. Children of the Song of Hope. I know its much to ask of ones newly brought into the world, but..."

Tephillah's hands grab Memoria's and bring them to his lips. A reassuring gesture, one that lets Memoria know he's on board and understands. "It won't be forever," he says gently. "We won't make them do it forever."

Two days were selected to make sure the Song of Hope would be potent enough to withstand the Song of Despair. Memoria and Tephillah spent many days prior preparing. They could not fail in their mission. Each egg was filled with the love and hope for the world that Memoria and Tephillah had. With this done, the two had to rest and prepare for the journey they would make.

how the song works mechanically

  • the song is not sung like a traditional song. it is more akin to background radiation, the song of the universe, and is more like waves being emitted from the children magically like the sun emits wavelengths of light. only the song of hope line can sing it this way. it does not require constant focus.
  • only children of memoria can hear it. it sounds like humming with 2 distinct voices singing in an archaic language. these voices belong to Crescendo and Adagio, who bear much more of the burden of the magic behind the song, however their uniqueness serves to make this easier on them. they are the melody, and their siblings the harmony.
  • the song can be sung traditionally, however it is much more draining on the body to do it this way, and is not sustainable for the length of time required for tephillah and memoria to go to the source of the song of despair and defeat it. concentration on the song is required in this method
  • the drawbacks to the song of hope being sung is that any magic more complicated than telekinesis of things lighter than 100lbs or prestidigitation is impossible due to the majority of their spellpower being focused on the song. thus, the normal great feats of memoria’s children are beyond the song of hope line (for now)
