Samara was initially on the mortal plane solely to collect humans souls through seduction. She crawled her way out of Hel through a portal in the middle of the forest and that’s when she came across Grem Konstantin. He was a dirty yet rugged ranger who survived on the land itself and for Samara he was as good a target as any. However their chemistry was palpable and there was no denying that during the act they both had developed feelings for each other. Grem was head over heels instantly upon seeing her and Samara on the other hand tried her hardest to repress the fondness that was growing for this human being. When the night was over, instead of killing him or leading him back to Hel: Samara simply vanished from the scene before further damage was done.

Unfortunately for her…it already had. Samara found out soon enough that she was pregnant with his child. Due to these ridiculous feelings she developed for the man in such a short amount of time, she couldn’t bear to get rid of the fetus preemptively. She also regrettably realized that she couldn’t sustain taking care of the child in Hel on top of her duties. The Succubus had no other choice than to give birth to the child and let it be cared for by the man that caused this debacle in the first place. When she appeared back in the same forest as before, Grem’s eyes lit up as he exclaimed in a string of overexcited phrases,

“Samara! I’ve been waiting for you to return for what feels like forever! I’ve never once stopped thinking about you! Words can’t begin to describe how happy I am that you’re back!”

Samara sighed despondently and replied, “I won’t be for long. This will only take a moment.”

From the portal, she pulled out a beautiful baby boy. Part human, part demon. He was the spitting image of his father, besides one exception. One of his eyes was bright blue. The same color of his mother’s.

As Samara handed Grem their son she said, “I imagine other aspects from my side will develop as he grows older.”

Grem had not forgotten her initial statement, but he was too in awe of the boy before him.

“What have you named him?”

Samara actually hadn’t come up with a name yet. But one instantly came to the surface of her thoughts:

“Malus.”

Grem didn’t really acknowledge the name besides a small “hm” and continued gazing at his son. Without looking at Samara he at last said, “Why did you keep this from me? It’s been nearly a year without as much of a hello.”

“I have a job to do.”

Grem actually looked her in the eyes then, with a look of pure contempt, “Oh. So I’m not the only one?”

“No, you’re not. But you are the first that,” she gestured at Malus, “this has happened with.”

“As if that means anything,” he muttered, “So are you leaving then? You seem to be tremendously skilled at that.”

Samara paused and looked at the man she could’ve loved if she was anyone but herself, then at the baby that they could’ve raised together if things were different.

“I must.”

She turned to her back on them to return to Hel, feeling as if two pieces of her own soul were ripped out of her. If any tears fell from her eyes…she refused to address them. Her last words to the both of them was a shaky “goodbye” and there was no response before she abandoned them.

Grem never forgave her for this for the rest of his life. His resentment of her absence caused him to choke up every single time his son asked about his mother. He could never bring himself to tell Malus anything about Samara. Mal was a smart kid and could tell it was a touchy subject, but was certain of the fact that his mom was still out there somewhere. When that fateful day of his father’s death arrived nine years later…he vowed that he would give up anything to find her.
