Vellum peered out of the door to their cottage, squinting at the brightness. The first snow of the year had fallen last night much to the small kitbulls dismay. It was already up to their hips and more snow was was expected later that day. With a frustrated sigh Vellum tightened their scarf and took a few steps back to get a running start. Rushing forwards they launched themself into the air above the snow. Buzzing frustratedly Vellum slowly flapped their way to the main palace.

Landing outside the palace doors Vellum stood up on their hind legs, and glared at their damp hands, yet another reason to detest winter. They were about to step through the doorway when a browbird far overhead, who hadn’t noticed the small kitbull below, shouted “coming down” as they used their wing beats to blow a mound of snow off the roof. They only had time to lift their gaze upwards before being buried under a pile of snow. The browbird peered over the edge of the roof, perplexed at the aggressive vibration of the snow pile. Vellum contained their furious buzzing, completely immobile, until the bird responsible reached into the snow pile a grabbed them under their arms, lifting them out of the snow “hey buddy sorry bout that I just didn’t see you!” Unamused Vellum had thoughts of creating untold horrors just for this browbird but dismissed the thought, resigning themself to giving the bird a disgruntled buzz and waddling inside. Clumps of snow clung to Vellums fur as they tried in vain to remove the freezing chunks. Several minutes of this passed before Vellum’s boss, the princeling wandered in and saw them struggling. Without a word he picked up Vellum, who was buzzing angrily at this point, and carried them to baths, unceremoniously tossing the half frozen kitbull into the steaming water. While Vellum fully intended to tell their friend how utterly indigent they were at this treatment by the time the bot bird had settled himself on the steps of the bath the snow had melted from Vellums fur and they were blissfully warm. The princeling sighed happily, asking Vellum “isn’t this the perfect way to spend a cold winters day?” Vellum could do nothing but hum happily in response.
