Vellum liked to think of themself as a straightforward kitbull. Honest and hardworking to a fault, and they went out of their way to ensure that their social image was practically immaculate, both for their sake and the sake of the princeling they served. However this didn’t prevent them from enjoying things that didn’t necessarily coincide with this persona. In particular Vellums guilty pleasure was romance novels, especially those that took place in the universe of their favorite series alter fruits basket. Now because of the fact that these weren’t exactly licensed Vellum preferred to keep their fondness for them under wraps, going to far as to a very secret bookcase under their bed with their favorites.

After a long day of doing someone else’s job Vellum was particularly excited to settle down and reread one of their favorite novels, an AU where the main characters, a fun loving kitbull and a broody browbird with a tragic past, meet accidentally and attempt to navigate their blossoming relationship. Just as they pulled the well worn paperback out of the secret cupboard under their bed the door to their large chamber style room opened with a creak. Vellum froze, the fluff on the back of their neck standing on end, they could only imagine the ridicule they’d be subject to if anyone found out about their fondness of these. Slowly turning to see who was entering their room without so much as a knock, Vellum found themself face to face with Luceat, who had the infuriating ability to appear at your side without so much as a whisper. With a startled buzz Vellum dropped the novel unceremoniously into the waiting hands of the browbird. Vellum quickly tried to make up all manner of excuses as to why they’d had a “silly little romance novel” but Luceat cut them off, smiling sleepily and speaking in his soft voice “is this the fantasy AU? I spent ages trying to find a paperback copy like this where did you get it?” With a start Vellum realized that maybe their hobby wasn’t so strange after all.
