Luceat peered out the tower window, resting his elbows on the ledge and watching the clouds on the horizon slowly drift by. Another night where his insomnia has gotten the better of him. This wasn’t uncommon but that didn’t make it any less frustrating. Yawning he went back to his desk, illuminated by a small levitating lamp that glowed softly, and sat down. Since his insomnia had worsened he’d taken to journaling, because he desperately needed something productive to pass the time. Unfortunately he’d often just lie in bed and go over every moment of his life wherein he’d failed somehow, in his eyes at least. Once he’d made the mistake of mentioning his insomnia to a friend, who decided that it was their duty to keep him awake as long as physically possibly to reset? His circadian rhythm. While three days and not without sleep didn’t magically cure his insomnia, he did sleep well the following day. Continuing to ponder the nature of his insomnia Luceat rapped his fingers on his desk absentmindedly. What could he do to help relieve this boredom. He’d obviously tried all manner of remedies for the insomnia, none of which had been successful, so he might as well just find something to do with his time. His thoughts continued in this direction for quite some time until light began to filter into his bedroom, ornate furnishings glittering in the early morning sun. Sighing Luceat watched the dust motes drift by and listened to the place dridgeons chattering their morning messages to one another, but this in fact gave him an idea. What if he purchased a companion to keep him company? Vellum mentioned they’d acquired a shimmering egg recently… This idea led to Luceat spending the next three days studying the different companion species in depth, ironically fueling his insomnia, however after he’d inevitably passed out slumped over his desk afterwards, he’d made his decision.

A bit nervous as he’d never raised a companion before, he handled the large pastel egg with care, hoping his new friend would be able to offer him respite from the tedium of his insomnia.
