Summer feelings

It was a warm, sunny day. You could hear the leaves rustling in the wind, the birds chirping happily. Summer had finally arrived in the land of Elm. The kingdom was bustling with the hubbub of the latest harvest and talk of the warm weather. Everyone was happily out and about, walking through the markets or running through the streets.
Only two people weren't as concerned with the cheery weather, Kai and Mariana. They were laying in the shade of a giant willow tree. Kai had his head laying in Mariana's lap, listening to her talk about her latest source of stress and pressure from her parents. "I don't understand why you don't just run away and decide to be free with me Mari, it'll be a wonderful life, free from the annoyance of our parents!" Kai chimes in as he sits up, removing a leaf that had landed in Mariana's hair.
 Mariana sighs, "Because my parents are good people Kai. They just can be a bit much at times. Besides, with my powers, I can't be trusted to be unsupervised." Mariana moves some hair out of Kai's face. "plus, who says I'd want to run away with a fool like you?" she says teasingly.
Kai glares slightly at Mariana, "Lot's of people would love to run away with me! I just have picked you to be that person." he says as he lays back in her lap again. "I love you Mari.. I want to be with you all the time. I just think that our future would be brighter if Zephyr and your parents weren't around as much." His gaze falls to the ground.
Mariana hugs him close to her and kisses his cheek, "I know Kai but we can't. Some day they won't be around and you'll have to lead the kingdom instead, but I'll be there by your side to help." Kai relaxes into Mariana's touch, "You promise you won't leave?" He says nervously, clearly scared Mariana won't be around in his future. "I promise you I will be Kai. Speaking of promises," Mariana pulls out a small black box and sets it in Kai's lap. "Open it."
Kai cautiously opens the box, inside are two matching rings, one smaller than the other. Mariana grabs the smaller one and places it on her ring finger. "They're promise rings, I thought it'd be a cute thing to do, you know?" Mariana says with a slight blush. Kai puts his on and tackles Mariana into a huge hug. "It's perfect Mari!! Thank you so much" Kai giggles and Mariana smiles at him happily.
