Simmer, simmer, simmer. The elegant foam of the sea caressed the sand beneath it. The movement was fluid, but desperate. It was as if the foam wanted nothing more than to reach the land that it knew it could not. Every time it receded, it would embolden and brace itself for a journey further onshore. It would not, however, achieve its goal unless further provoked by an outside source. It thus remained mobile only in the areas that it could reach comfortably.

Dalisay understood. A prominent yearning in her heart for something that she could not yet obtain pushed her to exceed her limits. She wanted nothing more than to entertain her heart; to delve into the mysteries of the ocean to solve a mystery of her own. The creature. The creature that hid beneath the waves was so unbearably alluring, and so unbearably cruel. Dailsay needed it— she needed her

Her heart had been punctured since the day she first saw the ‘girl’. To fill it, Dalisay had to unveil everything there was to know about her. About it— what was she? Why did she tug on the human’s heartstrings so tightly to the point of eliciting agony?

Dalisay stood, her feet sinking only slightly into the sand beneath them. The quick, biting waves ran around her ankles. The coldness of the water reminded the girl of how cold the siren was to leave her without closure and connection. The creature’s beauty was incomprehensible, and Dalisay would not allow for it to simply linger in the back of her mind.

“I know you’re out there,” She cried out. The sea deflected her words with ease. It was not an easy surface to penetrate. “I want to know you— please!” Another cry— this one with more sincerity.

Dalisay wanted nothing more than to authentically take in the siren’s grace… perhaps, even up-close. Though, she felt that her heart might not have been able to take something so confrontational.

The creature had interacted with her before. She had waved— a sign of affability (she assumed). Surely, she would do it again. Dalisay desperately wanted to see her again.

Just one more time. She pleaded, much like she did every time she visited the shore. It was never only one more time; she would always return to catch a glimpse of the enchanting creature. She thought about her at nearly all times— during work, at home, and practically everywhere else. Her life bored her; she needed a spark. She wanted to authentically know the girl. A faraway wave was not enough to quench Dalisay’s thirst.

“Please,” The passion in her voice dwindled. She gingerly bent her knees and placed her palms to the ground, transitioning into a sitting position. Her arms crossed over her shins. She gazed dismally at the water’s surface, placing her cheek on her shoulder. The silkiness of her hair graced her collarbones as it rested upon them. Her face, toned elegantly by the sun, faded into a frown.  “Just once more.”

Dalisay released her knee with her left arm, freeing it in order to feel for something besides her. A variety of textures ran along her palm. Grains of sand and stones greeted her skin with enthusiasm. Her fingers wrapped around a thin tone, and began moving it between them. Mindlessly, she tossed the stone into the water. The broken surface bubbled before returning to its original state. The girl continued doing this, throwing in whatever she could find in an act of ignorance.

The act gradually evolved into Dalisay expressing her frustration. She was a generally collected individual, though could not push past this conflict. She threw more stones in; large stones. At one point, she stood up to search for the ones that would inflict the most damage upon the water.

“Why can’t you love me!?” She struggled to throw a heavier rock into the sea. It nearly strained her shoulder.

Love me, please. I adore you. You are my beauty of the sea!
