1) Do you like piña coladas and getting caught in the rain?

"Absolutely, to both! Fruit is something we don't really have a way to grow back home, and I love all kinds of it! Anything made with a fruit is like a delicacy to me. 

"Rain is another thing that doesn't happen underwater, and that kinda speaks for itself why I'd welcome it, hehe."

2) Would you eat green eggs and ham?

"Sure, looks tasty! I'm pretty much down to try whatever."

[Melelani has been on land long enough by now to know what people generally eat, but not experienced enough to clock it as strange. Whatever you do, DON'T tell her it's part of an entire book/poem, or she'll become obsessed with the bit and basically turn into Sam I Am.]

3) Can jealousy ever be an attractive trait?

"Yes." [She laughs.] "I don't consider that many things unattractive, to be honest..."

[She's pan and prone to crushing easily. Jealousy is not a dealbreaker and might in fact be a delicious source of drama spice. The worst thing you can be to Melelani is boring.]

5) How early should you get to the airport before a domestic flight?

[Assuming dndverse has some equivalent like a mega train station or something, if not airports/air travel lol]

"Eh, early enough that I don't need to rush. I'm fine being late to stuff in general but for travel it's the pits. Sometimes I will get to the station super early on purpose, so I can kick it for a while and maybe do some street performing while I wait."

6) What do you call this thing? (WARNING: BIG BUG AHEAD!!!!!!! BE SO CAREFUL!!!!!!!)

"That has got to be THE smallest isopod I have EVER SEEN in my life. And why is it so dark lol that's neat... it's like a lil sesame seed... Can I name him Sesame.............."

7) What did you like to “play pretend” as when you were a child?

"Playing pretend used to be my CAREER! I loved THEATRE and I was even a GLADIATOR... but my whole town is full of pacifists and all the actual strong ones are out getting food all the time so there was never anyone for me to fight against. I'm so good at pretending I can even pretend for OTHER PEOPLE lol. Choreographing around that was actually kind of fun in its own way... and sometimes people would still come to watch. Mostly gawk, though, since they all thought fighting is dumb. And there's no glory in not having real opponents, anyway. Part of why I left home was because not that many people shared my non-music interests, and turns out pretending by yourself gets kinda boring after a while!"

8) What did you do last summer?

"What DIDN'T I do..." *waggles eyebrows*

"...Butnoseriously I partied on the beach with some friends. We played some beach volleyball with a blowfish as the ball! Turns out landfolk appreciate the ocean almost as much as us seafolk do, when the sun is out!"

[The blowfish thing is from a dnd session, as part of a funny background bit while other stuff was going on. We rolled dice to see who won, and loser took damage from the blowfish pricks. A nat 1 would have meant the blowfish poisoned you, lol.]

9) If you could live in a city based on any holiday, which holiday would you pick, and what would that city be like?

[If Melelani had knowledge of our holidays, she'd probably like Halloween the most, since it's mostly party-centric. Everyone in fun costumes all the goddamn time? SEXY VERSIONS of those costumes? That's a theater kid's dream. Also pranks are a Halloween thing and Melelani would probably dig those too. Also also Melelani's town/culture kinda makes a party out of death/funerals so the association with spooky dead things might also be familiar. Honestly just put her in Halloweentown she'd be right at home]

10) How much parmesan would you like? Say when.

[She seems curious to find out how far you'll go before stopping on your own]

11) Have you ever worn a disguise for the purpose of genuinely deceiving someone?

"Uhh, does acting count? But also yes in the straightforward sense. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do! It's all part of adventuring!"

[It's happened in a session, even! Melelani and a few friends (fellow PCs) decided to huddle together and dress up as a fish-centaur god to fool a centaur enemy (which worked, because, since Melelani was the "face", I was in charge of the Deception roll... and I rolled the best nat 20 I've ever rolled in my life.)]

12) What’s your ideal vacation?

"Somewhere I haven't been!" 

[I dunno if Melelani knows what a vacation IS, actually. In a good way! Work/life balance in her home town is pretty good and skews toward Chillaxing.]

13) A man is found dead in the middle of a field holding a broken match. How did he die?

"I dunno, is this some kinda land-style farming thing? But that sounds kinda weird, why would you try to set the plants on fire." 

[I'm guessing the actual answer is that he froze to death or something trying to start a fire but couldn't with a broken match? Lol]

14) What are your thoughts on couples matching their outfits? How about twins?

"Hehe, I LOVE that!" [Melelani's usual grin widens at the prospect of couples doing romantic couple things, and daydreams a bit before regaining focus]

"...Twins, huh? That's not something my species really does, or at least differentiates! My people have clutches of eggs, so I guess what you humans would call 'fraternal twins' is just what's normal - single births are the rare thing for us, and those have a special name in Aquan: <golden pearl>. Usually there's a special kind of party, too, when they hatch. 

"Identical twins are completely novel to me, though! How neat! I bet that gets confusing sometimes."

[...I won't go too far into biological headcanon territory, but I do find this kind of thing fun to speculate about]

15) Can you do impressions? Show me your best one.

"Oh I'm GOOD at this game!" [Melelani casts Disguise Self to look like Keel but without wings] 

"...Uh, oops, forgot I gotta keep the same number of limbs..." 

[She gets distracted and doesn't even try to do a voice.]

16) Thoughts on vaping?

[assuming a fantasy-equivalent technology lol] 

"Humid air passes through both my lungs and gills in a similar way, which feels nice, so I thought vaping would be too... but instead my lungsandgills feel weird, and NOT in a good way. The flavor part is neat buuuuuut: no thanks!"

"...I like this one!!!" [She immediately grabs The Lovers without hesitation.]

[I think I assigned her The Chariot at one point, but Wheel of Fortune might have felt like it fit too. I'll have to check again. The Sun feels like Melelani, also.]

"I AM the live show. I'll be here all week." [She winks at you]

"Something embarrassing like naming me after themselves. Who does that." 

[Melelani ABSOLUTELY ends up being the one who Does That, based on the second gen notbecca and I came up with]

"I dunno. You got any?" [She probably wouldn't care]

21) Can you swim? If so, what is your favorite stroke?

[Melelani stares into the camera about the first part of this question] 

"Uh, the one that makes me go through the water fastest?..." 

[She would need you to explain the concept of surface swimming/different strokes since that might not be how her culture differentiates different ways to swim. But for the sake of this answer I'd say probably some version of breaststroke or butterfly; crawlstroke or backstroke would probably feel unnatural to her]

"Saying 'all three' is cheating, huh?... If I gotta pick one, it's gotta be BOLD!!"

23) If you had to get a tattoo, what would it be of?

"I have one! It's of a conch shell! It was reeeeeally expensive cause it's magically-infused with the spell 'Calm Emotions', so I can use that whenever I want. Let me know if you need a hug and I'll make sure it really does the job!" [She points to a small tattoo on the inside of her wrist area, smiling.]

[This is from a DND session. The tattoo itself is not in Melelani's references; I'd have to go looking for design doodles because I think I might have started some a while back. I literally forgot about it until I saw this question. Although the campaign where she got the tattoo is something we ended up deciding wasn't canon for various reasons, so idk if Melelani still gets to have the tattoo in practice. But I like the idea that she HAS a conch shell tattoo, regardless, even if it's not magical.]

24) What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done to impress a crush?

"I pretended to like..." [shuddering] "...their standup comedy. Euhhhhh"

"Well, white looks good on me, but I sure couldn't get them on MY feet!"

"Uhhhhh yes. Absolutely."

"I guess I have to say yes, on a technicality? Partying back home is kind of a drawn-out, community sort of deal, so there's like, designated times for it. And when it's time to go back to doing regular stuff everyone's kinda easing back into things anyway. I've noticed partying works a little differently up here on the surface though, heh."

[I imagine that drug use, recreationally or otherwise, looks slightly different in Melelani's culture. Her species overall probably tolerates alcohol/liquor pretty well, in particular. If Melelani is drinking or using some type of drug, it's for a specific social event, which comes with specific types of drinks, or just because it tastes good. If she ever had enough of something to become affected by it at all, by that point it'd probably be enough to knock her out, which is roughly the case for most of her species.]

"Nope! If you're servin' it I'm eatin' it."
