You are my sunshine <3

“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine” sweet, gentle notes filled the air as she rocked her newborn in her arms.

“You make me happy, when skies are grey” she reached a hand out, a tiny hand held her finger as she cuddled him close, a gentle smile crept up her features as she sang, the calming tune floating through the room.

“You’ll never know dear,” He lets out a tiny giggle, heterochromic eyes brimming with trust as she kisses his forehead. “How much I love you.” Her eyes filled with maternal love as she held him close, her fingers gently stroking the soft strands of his purple hair.

Unknown to her, her husband was stood at the doorway, newly printed Polaroid photo in hand. He grinned down at the photo, which had captured the raw moment between mother and son.

“Please don’t take my sunshine away.” Her soft voice sending the baby into a gentle slumber, she sat there on the small chair in the corner of the baby room, eyes trained only on her little one.

The photo was taped to the wall, right next to the old cot.

The photo wore over time, grown up fingers tracing the image of his mother, tears filling his eyes. He longed to be that baby once more, longed for a lullaby, longed for her unconditional love.

He stopped being her sunshine long ago, but she never stopped being his.
