When angemos humans die they go from heavenly to fallen, in Derks situation his human was already old, a sweet old lady actually. She died of natural causes and he stayed by her bed side while she passed. When Derks higher up (Cirus) came to him, he knew what was to come. But Cirus instead extended compassion towards him. That old lady was sweet and caring, Derk did all he could to keep her safe and he saw her as a mother figure.

He’s only still heavenly because of the circumstances, As he did keep her safe. So he was assigned to another human.
