“Wherever he went, he felt himself look for her. It wasn’t even something he planned, it wasn’t even something he wanted to do anymore - sometimes he thought it might be easier for him if… No, that wouldn’t be easier. It would be stupid. Someday. Someday - that word resonated with him from across the sky, from the earth and the rocks and the sun that she had loved so. And he’d look, look. Those eyes, that hair - if he caught of glimpse of anyone passing by, a glint of silver, a touch of the scent she always carried with her, he would turn to look without a second thought. It was never her, of course. He would see that right away, and walk off, heart just a little heavier. But he still always checked. Just in case.

Someday, right?

A glint of silver, from the corner of his eye. A glint of armor, familiar yet somehow newer, bigger, heavier. He turned, on instinct, though he tried to press the hope down, down, down - because it won’t be her. It wasn’t going to be her. He wished that it would be, yet he knew by now that all he would get is a temporary flutter of the heart, and then yet another heavy stone on the pile– “Hello.”

Someday came at last.“
