It was early in the morning, and Julius was bored.  And when he was bored, his hands always drifted to his sketchbook.

The red-horned demon picked it up from the bedside table, flipped it open to a blank page, and grabbed a pencil.  But then, he stopped for a moment—what should he sketch?  Then, his gaze drifted to Calix, who was sleeping soundly next to him, and he knew what—or more specifically, who—he wanted to draw today.

Julius turned his body a bit so that he was facing Calix a bit better, and then, he began making his art.  His pencil glided over the page with ease as he tried to capture the essence of his boyfriend: he started with the other demon’s long face and pointed chin, then hs flat nose and pointy ears.  He smiled as he drew Calix’s bedhead, the white hairs sticking up above his forehead, and then the ponytail that drifted behind his head.  Finally, he drew his boyfriend’s soft lips, closed eyelids, and bushy eyebrows.

Julius was just finishing up the drawing when Calix started to stir: the blue-horned demon opened his eyes, blinking as he started to wake up.

“Morning, Sleeping Beauty,” Julius teased him, leaning down and smooching him on the forehead.

“Morning,” Calix mumbled, sitting up and stretching.  Then, he spotted the sketchbook, and squinted as he studied the drawing.  “Is that. . .?”

“Yeah, that’s you, in all of your sleepy glory,” Julius replied, feeling a bit self-conscious.  “Um, do you like it?”

Calix smiled.  “It looks great.”

“Aw, thanks!” Julius grinned.  “Now, what do you say we go get some breakfast?”

“Let’s do it.”
