Just Spring Things | 4/20

Blair took a sip of her black tea, shielding her eyes from the sunlight that beamed in from the cafe window. She had picked a high-top table against the cafe's front wall, next to the large window that stretched out to the bustling city street so she could watch the passerby. She was waiting for Rysa to meet her for some morning farmer's market shopping, now that the temperatures had started to rise.

Blair had always been a fan of spring: when the flowers began to bloom and the color returned to the landscapes. Of course, she was also lucky enough to have been born without the pollen allergy that plagued many of her friends and family. For her, spring was all about rebirth and rejuvenation, and it meant that the world had a bit more purple and pink in it (her favorite colors, of course). She liked to think that Rysa would feel the same way given her bright nature, but she was a winter girl at heart. Blair did enjoy the winter... but she definitely preferred the warmth to the cold.

Outfits were much easier to plan in the spring too, since she didn't have to worry about wearing a jacket all the time. Granted, the fur that covered her body meant that she never had to dress TOO warm, but she found that winter outfits weren't as cute without a jacket. Turtlenecks were always too scratchy, too, and she hated wearing long pants. In spring, it was easy to throw on a tank top and shorts and not be judged for choosing a sporty look over a professional one!

"Umm... Blair?"

Blair was snapped out of her fashion-induced trance by Rysa, who had been standing next to the table for who knows how long. Her hair was a bit of a disheveled mess as always, and despite the warmer weather she was still wearing a thin purple sweater that looked to be a little too big for her. "Rysa! I'm so sorry, I was completely lost in thought!" Blair stood up to hug Rysa, who didn't seem too interested in the interaction, so they exchanged a half-hug that was pretty typical for their meetups. "How have you been? It's been a while since we talked!"

Rysa shrugged. "Same old same old, I guess. You know how it is... been doing a lot of art lately now that things have started to get  more interesting around here." Blair smiled; it was pretty common for all of her conversations with Rysa to revolve around art. "Well that's good! You really should invest in a phone, you know. You'd have so much source material right at your fingertips! And then, of course, I could talk to you whenever I wanted..."

Rysa gave Blair a look of disdain. "You know I don't believe in all that tech-y stuff. Besides, who needs that kind of crap anyways? The real world is so much prettier to look at." Blair gave a half-hearted smile, knowing that she could never change Rysa's mind on anything, and took another sip of her tea. "Did you want to order something? There's still plenty of time before the market begins to pack up. The weather today is just fantastic!"

Rysa bit her lip, pondering the thought. "No, I can get something at the market. It's more likely to be organic there, anyways. I've not had a drink from this cafe before..." Blair gasped, as if taken aback that such a thing was even possible. "Oh, really? I LOVE this cafe! I think everything is organic... oh, but the things at the market will probably be more unique! I got my drink to go, so we can go ahead and head out now!" And with a quick push of the chair and a wave goodbye, the two were off into the bustling street to find the market.
