\Rue’s POV/

“IT’S SNOWING!!” I heard Diva shout at the top of her lungs all the way from kitchen. I just sighed. I know it’s not that far of a distance from the kitchen to the living room, but still…

“Good to know she can scream.” Pick spoke up from my left, a slight snicker following after. I rolled my eyes at Pick’s comment while holding my cup of hot chocolate.

“Diva has always had a strong set of lungs… Granted, it can make her even more annoying sometimes…” As I take a quick sip from my cup, I hear Pick trying not to burst out laughing. “But we still love her.” I look over at Pick as she slowly calms down and continues mixing batter for the pie she’s making. “What’s today’s flavor?” I ask, genuinely curious. The red Kat smiled gently.

“Blueberry. Making it for our lovely friend, Talia.” As she says this, I just smirk to myself.

“Oh? And will you be the one delivering it to her?” This causes the baker next to me to laugh out loud this time.

“Of course not! What kind of loving friend would I be if I didn’t let Mr.Lonely deliver it to her~?” We both just start laughing together, but it soon got interrupted by a quiet and, uncharacteristically for our kind, deep voice.

“What are you two talking about…?” We both turn our attention to the kitchen’s doorway and see our usually quiet friend, Jay, who was yawning and stretching his wings.

“I’m sure he’d love to know.” Pick mumbled this. As much as I’m sure she would’ve loved to say that to him, she can’t for two reasons. 1) Jay is practically completely deaf, so he can’t hear anything really, unless it’s extremely loud (which probably means he heard Diva’s shout) and 2) Pick hasn’t learn sign language yet, so she can’t say it to him that way. I put my cup down on the counter and turn completely towards Jay, noticing that he was looking at me expectantly. I carefully sign to him.

‘We were talking about the pie that Pick is making currently.’ He tilted his head to the side, his little makeshift earring, that was dangling off of his left horn, swaying to the side with his head. He wandered over to us and sat at one of the chairs surrounding the counter then signed back to me.

‘Oh? Is it for someone else or is it for Asugi?’

“Damn brat…” I heard Pick mumble, embarrassed, next to me. I just smiled to myself. Pick at least knows the alphabet signed, so she probably has an idea as to what Jay said. I shook my head and replied.

‘No, it’s not for Asugi. It’s for someone you care deeply about.’ I winked at the end of my sentence as Jay’s eyes widened and he instantly looked off to the side, completely embarrassed. Jay has feelings for Talia… Pretty strong feelings at that. So, we always poke fun at him about it and have him deliver anything we make/have for Talia to her place. I giggled to myself then tapped Jay’s leg to get his attention. As he returned his gaze to me, rather reluctantly, I signed to him.

‘Shall we go see what the rest of our roomies are up to this lovely, winter morning?’ He stares at me for a bit before slowly nodding.

“Sure thing Rue…” He turns his gaze to Pick. “I guess I’ll see you later at some point…” Pick just nods in response. As Jay gets up from the chair and makes his way to the living room, I look over at Pick.

“I’ll talk to you later?” Pick grins and nods again.

“Sure thing! Take good care of the children~!” She says in a playful tone as I just roll my eyes at her and proceed to follow Jay to the living room. Half of our group is quite a childish bunch, so the more mature half of the group tend to keep them in check. Doesn’t always work considering two of the mature ones usually end up be childish on the occasion but… We make due. As Jay and I reach the living room, none of the other members of our little cave home were present. I sighed.

“Great… Just what we need right now…” I mumbled to myself. Jay walked forward a bit, so that he was in front of me then sits down, signing to me.

‘Do you think they went outside?’ I nod in response as he continues to sign. ‘Should we go make sure that they haven’t wandered off too far?’ I nodded once more as we both made our way out of our cave and out into the cold winter weather. As we walked out, we were given the sight of Diva and Ladislao rolling huge snowballs to make a snowman. I giggled then looked around in search of the rest of our mini family, only spotting Asugi sitting near the cave entrance. I took a glance at Jay and saw him sit down, watching the two hyperactive kids be calm for a change. Once I knew those two were being safely watched, I walked over to Asugi, who acknowledged me as soon as I approached him.

    “Pleasure to see you, Rue..”

“You as well, Asugi.” I took a seat next to him and watched Diva and Ladi. “Any idea where the other five are?”

“Onmyo was up before everyone else… So, as usual…”

“They wandered off before anyone could stop them.” I sighed. “Typical…” Onmyo was the newest member to our home… But they weren’t exactly on okay terms with everyone yet, so they tend to wander around outside very often. “Aero?”

“He went and dragged Sogni to go look for our gender neutral friend.” I sweatdropped. Oh dear… Poor Sogni… Despite the similar kindness they share, Aero is much more hyperactive and he knows better than to mess with certain pair-ups we have in our home (Diva and Ladi, Pick and Asugi, Quarter and Dave), so he likes to drag Sogni around with him as his partner. Sogni doesn’t particularly enjoy Aero’s company when he’s alone with him, so it’s not a good position for Sogni… “As for our introvert and her crush…” I giggled quietly to myself. “I do believe she went to drag him off to---”

“RUE!!” Two voices shouted in unison as I was tackled to the ground by the other two childish Kats of our home.

“...Well, I guess you don’t need me to tell you anymore…” Asugi mumbled, a smirk on his face. I just glared up at him.

“Could’ve warned me choco monster…” He just chuckled and shook his head.

“Hey Rue! Glad to see you’ve finally decided to join us!” I stopped glaring at Asugi and gazed at the musical introvert, Quarter, who looked extremely happy.

“Yeah!” My gaze then switched to the other Kat on top of me, our hot cocoa lover, Dave. Dave didn’t originally live with us. He befriended Quarter and Jay a while back (although he is much cozier with Quarter) and at one point while he was hiking, he came across our humble little home. As soon as Dave spoke up, asking if anyone was around, he was instantly tackled by Quarter and he was very quickly dragged into our home and asked if he wanted to stay with us. Which leads us to now, a few months after that event. He befriended our whole little family and fits in very well. And ever since he moved in, Quarter has been much happier.

“Hello lovebirds… Mind getting off of me?” The two of them instantly flinched and stuttered out at the same time.

“L-Lovebirds?!?” This caused Dave to instantly get off of me and he turned his head away, very embarrassed. Meanwhile, Quarter didn’t move but she just closed her eyes, happily although just as equally embarrassed. As I was about to push her off, I noticed her long cat tail was wagging as well and I just sighed.

“Damn you kid…” I quietly mumbled to myself. We all found it very hard to do something rude/mean to Quarter whenever she was this happy. Well… Almost all of us. Before I could ask Quarter to get off of me, a snowball instantly hit Quarter in the head, shocking both me and her. I turned my head in the direction where the snowball came from and saw Aero. Speak of the devil… Despite being here for a while now, he still has yet to learn certain things. He laughed, triumphally.

“That’s! For catching me off guard and pushing me into the pond!” He shouted. As I just watched this unfold, I noticed, from the corner of my eye, Jay flinch and suddenly get very shy and embarrassed.

“Talia!” I soon heard Ladi shout out in a happy tone, which caused me to look at him confused then back at Aero. This was when I noticed that behind him were Onmyo and Sogni, who both looked extremely uncomfortable right now, and Talia, who was just giggling. I waved at Talia from my spot on the ground.

“Hello Talia. What brings you to our humble abode?” She looked over at me and smiled.

“I found Onmyo wandering around town, looking lost. So I thought I’d help them out. On the way over, we crossed paths with Aero and Sogni and… Well. Here we all are!” She explained as Aero laughed again. However, his laughter was cut short by a snowball being thrown at his face, causing him to tumble backwards. We all stared,  confused then looked at who threw it, all for some of us to start laughing. The reason? Quarter was now glaring at Aero, with a determined look in her eyes.

“You wanna go, Aero?!” She shouted at him as he instantly got back up, the same determination in his eyes. Quarter finally got off of me and once she did, I instantly got up and walked over to Jay.

“Anyone who wants to avoid being a target in the up in-coming snowball fight, please come join us over here.” I sat down next to Jay and watched Talia make her way over, sitting down on the other side of Jay. I could see him squirming a bit, still shy and embarrassed as she started signing to him, trying to make conversation. One of these days, we’ll get Jay to not be a nervous mess around Talia. I watched Dave and Sogni walk over and join us as Diva and Ladi joined Aero’s team and Asugi and Onmyo, who was more than likely pissed/annoyed by Aero and wanted some payback, join Quarter’s team. I looked at both sides then shouted. “I want a good clean fight, ya hear me?!” I heard both teams shout in agreement. “Good! Now… Ready? Set? ...FIGHT!” And snowballs were instantly being thrown from both sides as everyone else watched from the sidelines. All in all… Quite a normal morning for our little family.
