Walking through the camp of Highclan, Fatidus simply mind his business. To what happened in these boring days filled him with the sense of longing for something more. With Dreamcloud's recent departure, he felt more lonely. Of course, he had Whitelily and appreciated her company, but it seemed so sudden that his friend left. Worries filled his mind as he endlessly paces around camp with nothing to do. He really needed something to distract him. Suddenly, the loud call of Blackstar resonated throughout the clan and he went towards her. What would she say now?

After a few minutes of listening, Fatidus immediately leaped up from the stony ground, rejuvenated. This competition of sorts would be the perfect distraction! Knowing he would do both parts, he immediately set off to go down the mountain for a hunt. Besides him followed Thunderstrike, a very bright tom he never thought of talking to before. Of course, this had not been because he seemed far too hyper or anything, but it's because Fatidus felt a little unsure of him. He harbored no bad thoughts of the cat beside him. Then Thunderstrike suddenly spoke out loud, breaking Fatidus' reverie, "Hey! You've been a little quiet, so what's up?"

Fatidus felt surprised at the tom's sudden greeting, "Um... hello?"

"You're really into this competition, right? Hunting one, yeah?"

"Yes, that is why I am here."

"Well, good luck buddy! What's your name, actually? My name's Thunderstrike!"

"I go by Fatidus..."

Thunderstrike's eyes lit up, "What a neato name! It's nothing like I've heard before!"

"Well, I mean I guess? Thank you. Your name is nice, too."

"Thank you!"

Wow, this cat seemed amazing friendly! Fatidus felt unsure if he could handle it, actually. Thunderstrike would be against him in this competition and he would not back down. In fact, the rest of Highclan were against him, he realized. This was a free-for-all, and all of Highclan would be against each other. Through the journey down, Thunderstrike constantly talked to Fatidus, to which the caliby found a little... overwhelming? He completely forgot his former worries and his mind was fully set on capturing the most prey out of everyone else. Later, Fatidus surely would beat the others in fighting; in fact, he felt completely sure that his skills would be enough to take down anyone against him. It wasn't like him to be so haughty, but he felt completely sure he could end up in 2nd or 3rd place if not first.

They were down at the meadow, Fatidus and three others. One of those would definitely be Thunderstrike, a tom who stuck close to the caliby for the entire trip, and two she-cats named Deathrose and Singedfeather. Never have talked to them before and a little hesitant to, Fatidus did not bother starting up a conversation with them. All he focused on were to catch enough prey for this entire event and to end up in a good place in the end. Thunderstrike gave him a confident look, "Good luck, Fatidus!" Watching as the excitable tom wish the other two good luck, he quickly turned his attention to scenting prey in the air. Sniff, sniff. Slowly, he closed his eyes and opened his maw. There, the fresh scent of mouse filled his nose. Taking it in for a few moments, the caliby crouched down. The mouse stood right in front of him, looking aimlessly around for its food. Well, sadly, the mouse wouldn't get to eat anything ever again.

With quick action, Fatidus sprung up into the air. The mouse continued to be unaware of the cat's presence. Surely, no cats could be out looking for prey at this time, right? Wrong! The mouse's thoughts of finding some nice seeds to eat were quickly ended with a swift bite to its neck. It spasmed a little before going completely still. Holding the mouse, Fatidus quickly dug a hole and buried the mouse so he could take it back later. Afterwards, looking behind him, Thunderstrike seemed to be in good spirit! He caught a mouse as well. Fatidus could see his absolute joy. Was he hoping to win too? Knowing how most of this clan was, of course, he does! That tom seemed so eager about this competition; in fact, he seemed a little too eager. Fatidus walked over to the tom after he buried his catch, "You seem happy."

"And you seem... also happy!"

Fatidus could easily tell that tom always acted like this, "I mean... sure, but you seem really high up in your spirits."

"Yup! Though you seem kinda quiet, I bet you're feeling real happy too, yeah?"

True, actually. Fatidus felt satisfied with his catch, "Yes, I do."

"Then let's continue catching stuff! After all, the one objective is to catch the most outta everyone! Yep?"

Fatidus simply nodded and turned around. Today would be a long day, and Thunderstrike would definitely be the most vocal about his feelings out of everyone. That tom seemed rather childish, but perhaps it was not bad at a time like this. Besides, Blackstar wanted everyone to feel more connected to each other, even after the sudden disappearances that happened only recently. Fatidus felt like this was a perfect way of doing it, no matter how silly it seemed.

He turned his head up to the sky and tried smelling for prey, but was quickly distracted by Thunderstrike's voice, "Hey! You know, no hard feelings if you don't happen to win. The only thing you should think is that you're going to have a bunch of fun, right?"

"That just so happens to be the case. You also need to remember your own words. Don't be too much of a sore loser if I just so manage to surpass you~"

"Ooh, that's not going to happen, buddy. I'll win this competition fair and square, got that?"

"Do not be so sure about that, Thunderstrike. You never know, someone like me may just take that victory right out of your paws!"

"You seem much more talkative now! Earlier, you were kind of quiet and all, but I see you're totally serious about this winning business. See you after the competition, Fatidus!"

"I will be the one who comes out on top, Thunderstrike!"

"Oh it's on, friend!"

His attention was back on the objective of catching the most prey out of every warrior in the clan! And if he were to win, Fatidus could tell Blackstar one of his ideas for improving the clan. He knew he needed to think more on that, but for now, it was serious business! He could not worry about anything at this moment, for he only felt determined to achieve victory!

Of course, there would not be any mercy left for the others. Fatidus would put this all into the win!
