THE ABANDONED HOUSE

(A continuation of A Dear Friend)

Chloe was still in awe from the scenery they found beyond the woods. The abandoned, brick house looked old but still intact.

“Hey Rae, why don’t we go check out that building? Maybe some cool stuff was left behind!”

“Squa!” Rae screeched as she jumped off Chloe’s shoulder and ran towards the building.

“Hey! Wait up!!” Chloe sprinted to catch up.

As the two approached the front door, they both slowed down. “We should probably make sure no one is actually home before barging in… just in case.”

Knock knock knock. “Hello? Anyone there?” There was no response to the knocks or her question. “Guess it’s safe to go in then.” Chloe placed Rae on her shoulder and carefully turned the door knob. The door was surprisingly unlocked.

Inside the house was dark and dusty. There didn’t seem to be any electricity in the home. There was a fireplace and some worn out furniture, but that was about it.

“Wow, this place is going to need a lot of work… Let’s keep looking around.” Chloe scanned the area. There was a dust-covered book on what looked to be a coffee table.

“Woah. What’s this ancient looking thing?” Chloe picked up the book. A thick layer of dust covered the leather-bound book. The pages were discolored; looking like it could fall apart at any moment.

“Better be careful with this thing.” She carefully opened the book. A note was folded within. Chloe carefully unfolded the letter and began to read.

If you are reading this, you have found my private lake home, and you are probably the first one to find my house if this book is still there. Enclosed in this book is my guide to plant growing and farming. Do as you wish with it. I have also left some seeds for you to start your garden. If they are still here, again, you can assume you are the first one to come across my home. Please feel free to use them, for I am not coming back to this home. Happy gardening.

The signature of whomever wrote the book seemed to have smudged off the page.

“Huh… seems like the signature wiped away. I wonder how old this thing is. Look’s just about as old as dirt.” Chloe placed the book back on the table. “Rae, you wanna grow some plants together? We could use a steady food source.”

“Squa!” Rae was jumping up and down.

“Awesome, then let’s get to work!” Chloe smiled back at Rae. “Let’s see what we got in this bag.” Chloe began to untie the string around the bag, but it practically denigrated in her hand. “Wow… this stuff really is old.”

Inside the bag were four Sichi seeds, two Ay seeds, and a pumpkin seed. They still looked like they were in tact and able to be grown.

“Sweet. This will be perfect for starting out. Guess we better get started while we still have daylight.”

The sun just ducked under the trees from the nearby woods as Chloe and Rae finished up planting her last seed. They took a step back to observe their work. They made a garden for their Ay Seeds and Pumpkin seed in hopes to expand it one day. The four Sichi trees were planted near the house to provide some shade for the house once it starts getting warmer.

“This looks hella awesome. I couldn’t have done it this fast without you though, Rae.” She smiled at Rae. Rae’s eyes widened as she smiled at Chloe. She jumped into Chloe’s arms and nuzzled her face.

“Hey, why don’t we go see what else that house has in store for us?”

“Squa squa!”
