Growl

The teacher writes me a pass

Achingly slow

To the library, to the hidden halls between

Books and the smell of turned pages

Because I am prey-scared

Of the students, hunters, around me

Of the chattering of the noises

I swallow my pride and the lingering side effects

I try to blame the pills 

But when the thoughts form, I can tell I’m lying
