Tobias Vrtilek

For ender

For several years, the monotony of Tobias’s everyday was a glaringly familiar fact of his existence. From traversing his life with ease, he was forced into a seemingly perpetual cycle of “study, sleep, repeat.” Although he’d always been the ordinary, awkward trans guy, he made it work, using his charisma to mostly carry himself through life. He’d always had the ability to charm and woo a person, despite his inability to have a proper conversation with them; thus, he’d used his endearingly awkward self to appeal to the people he’d known—his parents, friends, teachers—in order to get what he wanted. People would usually take pity on him and help out, or go easier on him as a result. It had allowed him to pass at the bare minimum for most of his life, although his luck had come to an end when it came to college. Debt and difficult classes had rendered the boy exhausted and desperate, enabling him to be the perfect prey to a demon.

PAPA approached Tobias at a point where his exhaustion had reached its limits, his fatigue so great that he believed the grotesque demon’s presence was a mere hallucination. The incubus took over his being, and an exhausted Tobias was forced to mentally battle with him for control. Despite being tired, he attempted to do anything in his power to get him out, but lost to PAPA every time. From then on, PAPA had mostly controlled Tobias to do his bidding while the boy watched and indignantly communicated with him from the sidelines, the situation spanning the course of several weeks. As time passed, however, the boy found himself growing more and more inclined toward the incubus’ lifestyle, and he no longer found PAPA “all that repulsive.” He actually found himself enjoying his new manner of living, and having the egotistical and promiscuous personality in his head found itself being quite helpful. College became a mere afterthought to the boy, and PAPA assured him that he would lead the way and be able to find a form of “work” for Tobias.

With time, Tobias and PAPA had grown to be quite close, and over the course of several months, it almost seemed as if they were becoming two of the same person in one corporeal form. Before long, they were adopting each other’s preferences, mannerisms, and ways of thinking. The most prominent physical evidence of this sort of “merging” even occurring was their gradual change of appearance. Sharing one body, PAPA and Tobias’ forms began to combine, the demon’s essence slowly altering their skin, both in color and texture. A red hue began to form, and their skin became rougher and more firm.. almost scaly. The worst offender of this would be their face, the surface of their countenance so grotesquely-shapen that they often joke that it should be painted over with a skull in warning—and so they do, to humor themselves. After a while, however, it stopped becoming about them, but rather, “us, we, I.” Before long, they’d found themselves as one and the same: one consciousness in one body.
