It was a cold morning when Maskstar walked out of his den and into the camp clearing. The morning dew still clung to the grass blades, occasionally dripping down to the ground as a bird chirp sounded through the air.

The leader gave a long yawn and stretched slightly, not at all bothered by the wet grass- their territory was a dark damp wood after all, paws were bound to get wet every now and then. A sound reached his ears, and Maskstar gave a small sigh, and ducked down, just as a cat came leaping out at him from the shadows, letting off a small ‘oof!’ when she fell to the ground. Turning around, Maskstar padded up to her and raised a brow.

“Why do you insist on trying to attack me every morning, then let yourself be known? You are smarter than this Brindlestream, I know you are.”

The she-cat know as Brindlestream shook her pelt and gave a large grin, bounding over to her leader and nudging him in the shoulder.

“Because one day I’ll get a reaction out of ya Mask-y I know I will!” The she-cat snickered and Maskstar gave an amused grin. Brindlestream was his friend- his best friend, the one she-cat that has stuck by him through thick and thin. It didn’t matter that his father never approved, she was the one who was by his side no matter what….she was also the one who convinced him to start accepting loners who were curious about clan life. Speaking of loners…

“So. Brindlestream, what do you think of our new clanmates?”

The tom’s ears flicked as he turned back from Brindlestream and went to continue his walk, exiting the camp and entering the territory. The she-cat fell in step besides him, also letting out a large yawn. No matter how dedicated she was to trying to startle him, she was always half-asleep until sun high. Still, she made a good deputy, and could even make decisions while being sleepy. Brindlestream gave another yawn before shrugging.

“Flamespring is good and you know it- we needed a medicine cat, with Berryleaf and his apprentice being killed in that earthquake. Plus the tom is loved by Barkkit- did you see how the small kit follows him around?”

Maskstar nodded. He was actually planning on approaching Flamespring on taking Barkkit as an apprentice. Hopefully the flame colored tom would agree with his decision, and they won’t have to worry about not having a medicine cat again. They were lucky the tom knew how to heal cats.

“I’m not like Torrentstar Brindle…”

A soft smile was given and the tom looked up at the morning sky, catching a few of the lingering Starclan warriors.

“It doesn't matter where they came from...as long as they give their life to the clan, they are a warrior…”

Brindlestream whooped at that statement, and nudged him again.

“That’s the Maskstar we know and love! Since we got that done and over with- I have an idea.”

Maskstar snorted and looked back at the she-cat.

“Oh? And what is this idea of yours.”

“Well-” The she-cat licked her chops before continuing “-I was thinking...we are already basically having a new start...so. Maybe we could have more specialized ranks. For cats who love fighting, or hate fighting. Cats specifically guarding the camp. And we could have a head of each of these ranks! That cat from Splashclan, the one who joined. He’s told me he’s really good at fighting, like really good. And he’s super fast too! So i was thinking maybe we could use him as a messenger for the other clans, in case something goes wrong, and there is a huge danger.”

Maskstar blinked as Brindlestream powered through and just started talking before going on and on and on. He of course was listening to the whole thing and...she wasn’t wrong. It was a good idea...he could already think of a few roles. Lead Hunter...Messenger like she said...a permanent queen to take care of the kits…

It was a smart idea. One he definitely couldn’t say no too.

“I think that’s an excellent idea Brindlestream...one we should discuss more in detail back in camp.”

The she-cat’s eyes brightened and she nodded.

“Race ya back to camp!” With that said, Brindlestream raced off towards the camp. Maskstar gave a chuckle before turning around and heading back to camp at a decent pace.

A new change to Wispclan...one that would protect the clan for ages to come. Maskstar was excited to see where this will take there clan. He trusted Brindlestream, and he had full confidence that this would help Wispclan for ages. And he couldn’t wait to lead this clan into a new age, one that will benefit Wispclan for moons to come.
