Candlelight finds something in the rain

The mountains were unwelcoming to newcomers this time of year. Candlelight had only been here a season or two and was still learning the land she'd found to be her homes. There were still caves within the mountain system she was too timid to explore. It was all very imposing for a single shecat, alone and lonely. Despite the torrential downpour, she found herself needing to leave the depth of the caves. Even if the sun didn't shine brightly, she craved the outward world. She was not one of the bats who shared the space with her; she craved the daylight and couldn't abide living by moonlight alone.

The rains had made today particularly miserable; cold beyond reproach. It would've been such an easy day to hunker down and sleep all day, but something ticked inside of Candle's brain. There was something waiting for her outside, out in the rain. She lazily hoisted herself onto all four legs, stretching and letting out a loud sigh through her nose. The rain and turbulent seas had likely washed up some fish; it'd be a shame to leave them to decompose. If she got out early enough, she'd have pick of the slaughter. Candle steeled herself, short fur offering her little help against the bitter cold. Ugh.

She made her way down the mountainside, trotting gingerly along the nearby shore. Ah, a fish! She sped up a little bit, though slowed a bit more as she realised something else was approaching. Was that...? Her ears set back unsurely. A kitten? Old enough to have left their mother, but young enough that they shouldn't be out here, of all places.

"Hello," she greeted gently.
The kit's head swiveled around in alarm, eyes wide and large. "I'm sorry! Is this your fish? I'll leave it alone, just don't hurt me!" He whined, backing away.
"Are you alone, little one?" She frowned, moving a bit closer.
He uneasily nodded, not moving from his place, "y-yeah. My humans left me here."

Motherly instinct welled up within Candle, and her frown softened into a gentle smile.

"Come, now, it's our fish and I'll give you someplace warm."
