MCHS: The Maid Fall Festival

Featuring Steamany, Yuán, Prim, Mocha, and Wallace

By: Johannaling

October drew to a close as the month of November started. Nearly everyone was excited, because a special event occurs during this time of year. The Fall Festival, said to be the school’s way of celebrating the autumn season before the chilly winter comes. Students from all classes began to prepare their stands, events and entertainment. After a week of prep, the Fall Festival began.

On the second floor of the school, a pair of students decided to enjoy themselves by looking for some sweets.

Yuán: “Wow, everyone really went all out this year!”

Wallace: “Everyone’s stands are so different and unique. I was really amazed by the Volleyball team. Their accuracy in hitting those targets was great. Some shattered into pieces!”

Yuán: “Must have took them all week to get right, especially with that hot-headed senior on their team. She probably worked them to death.”

The two laughed and continued to make small talk until they came to a bright and eye-catching place. It was in the culinary classroom with a big pink sign labeled: ‘Steamy Hot Maid Café~♥ - Delicious Sweets Served by Two Lovely Maids!’.

Wallace: “Hey, this place looks promising.”

Yuán: “You’re just in it for the maids, aren’t you?”

Wallace: “N-no I’m not! It just has a… a… great smell coming from it. Like cookies or brownies!”

Yuán: “Yeah, yeah, whatever.”

The two enter the classroom, and a bell jingles signaling their entry. There was a giant silver painted cardboard wall splitting the classroom separating the seats from the “kitchen”. There were even curtains you could walk in and out of. Wallace takes his seat as Yuán calls for service, but there’s a commotion in the kitchen.

Voice 1: “Do I have to go out there? Why can’t you do it?”

Voice 2: “I’m the only one who knows the recipes by heart to keep baking more orders.”

Voice 1: “That’s true, but…”

Voice 2: “No ‘buts’! Now get your gorgeous self out there already!”

A person in a frilly cyan dress is pushed out of the kitchen. With tiny bows and a headdress to match. The two recognized them right away.

Yuán & Wallace: Prim?!

Prim: Ehehe, h-hi guys…

Voice 2: Prim!

Prim: Yes, Ma’am!

Voice 2: Ma’am?!

Prim: Maidstress!

Voice 2: Good, you remember what I told you about greeting the customers, right?

Prim: Y-yes Maidstress…

Wallace was speechless as Yuán tried to contain her laughter. Prim was beyond embarrassed about having to wear a maid outfit. Reluctantly, he walked to their tables and handed them menus.

Prim: Is there anything you’d like to have, Masters? I recommend the cupcakes and velvet cake. They are very delicious.

Wallace: Uh… Well, I’ll have some velvet cake then.

Yuán: I’ll have some strawberry shortcake please.

Prim: Would like tea, juice, or water?

Yuán & Wallace: Water

Prim: Alright, I’ll relay your order to the Head Maidstress.

Prim returns to the kitchen as he helps prepare their orders. The two make small talk as they drink their water.

Wallace: I didn’t expect that at all.

Yuán: Oh? Upset that you didn’t get the sexy maids you hoped for?

Wallace: That’s not it!

Yuán: Pfft, hahaha! You don’t need to be so defensive.

As Yuán’s teasing passed the time, a second figure appears from the curtain. Holding two plates of cake in their hands. A short maid in a green dress with pigtails decorated with tiny bows

Voice 3: “Thanks for waiting, Masters!”

Yuán: “Well now, if it isn’t little Mocha.”

Wallace: “You mean the freshman track star?”

Mocha: “It is nice to meet you, Master.”

Wallace: “It’s nice to meet you too.”

Mocha: “Enjoy your cakes! I will return to give you the bill.”

Wallace: “Okay. ...wait, BILL?!”

Yuán: “Oh, you didn’t see it on the menu? We have to pay for our meals here. Then again, most of the stalls charge cash.”

Wallace: “Right, I completely forgot.”

The two enjoy their cakes as the smell of the kitchen oven fills the air. A warm and sugary smell that could grab anyone with a sweet tooth.

Yuán: “I must admit, these cakes are really delicious. The way they were layered and the frosting designs are superb. I feel like I’m eating art.”

Wallace: “Really? It tasted like a regular cake to me.”

Voice 2: “Way to shatter my confidence, Master Wallace.”

Wallace: “Eh?”

Wallace looks over his shoulder to see a dark figure looming over him. Dressed in black, with frills and stockings that make her look like an Oreo cookie. Steamany made her appearance, and pinched Wallace cheek.

Steamany: “Perhaps I should lecture you on the greatness that is a maid cooking.”

Wallace: “Ow! Ow ow ow ow ow, let go!”

Yuán: “Steamany, it’s been a while.”

Steamany: “It has. I trust the cake was to your liking?”

Yuán: Definitely. If I didn’t know you better, I would say you have the makings of a great baker.

Steamany lets go of Wallace’s ear as he whimpers in pain.

Steamany: “At least somebody acknowledges my hard work. Here’s the cost of today’s meal. Be thankful Master Wallace. If it were not for Master Yuán, I wouldn’t have given you a discount.”

Steamany hands them a hand-written receipt with a small cut of the total. The cut was labeled “Compliment: -$1.50” from their total of $6.00 for both slices. The two pay for their meal and return to seeing what the rest of the festival has to offer. Meanwhile, the kitchen was as lively as ever.

Prim: “Ugh… that was so embarrassing. I don’t know if I can do this any longer.”

Mocha: “Hang in there Prim, we only have 3 more hours to go.”

Prim: “3 HOURS?!”

Steamany: “Of course, I only have time to hold this place for 4 hours. So I expect you to work your hardest, alright?”

Steamany gave a beaming smile whereas Prim could do nothing but sigh and suck it up.

Steamany: “Now then, let’s getting baking!

Mocha & Prim: “Yeah!” “yayyyy…”

The day flew by as customers came and went, one by one. The next weekend, Steamany finished her shift from her part-time job at a local maid café. She pulled out her phone and gave a heartfelt smile. Looking at a picture she took together with Mocha and Prim.

Steamany: “They truly were some great maids.”
