“I don’t think it’s supposed to look like that.” Maugin said softly, looking over at Eira as she worked. The runner pouted at her words, looking up quick enough to send her massive ears flopping all over. The package she had been trying to wrap was…well it wasn’t pretty. That was the kindest way to put it, with the way the paper was tangled up and shredded and hap-hazardly held on with sloppy knotted ribbons. Maugin had managed quite a few packages and presents in her time as a messenger and not one had ever looked like THAT.

“Well what’s it SUPPOSED to look like?” Eira whined, looking utterly distraught. She needed it to be ready to send, but with all of their human companions and their thumbs missing for the time being, she had tried to do it herself. It hadn’t exactly worked. “This isn’t as easy as it looks you know, I don’t even have strong magic to work with here.”

“It’s okay…we can…probably fix it.” The petite runner tried to be hopeful, even if there was definitely no hope for the poor package. “Just…take everything that’s on it right now off, and we’ll start over- together.” She wasn’t going to just sit back and watch Eira struggle this time. Honestly, she had really thought she’d had the situation under control but as it turned out she really…really didn’t. No matter, they could tackle it together, and it just might work out. She could hope it would anyways.

Eira hesitated a moment, before smiling a little towards her. “I-if you’re sure. What if it turns out worse?” She practically squeaked the fear to her companion, looking worriedly over the package as she began to peel back the layers of failure. At the very least, the box that had been being wrapped was still fine. It hadn’t been damaged in the attempt to wrap it, and that was a relief- drawing a soft ‘phew’ from Eira as she surveyed it.

“Don’t worry…it’ll be okay!” Maugin assured her, reaching out with a paw to gently rest it on Eira’s shoulder. They could do this! They had the skills….or at least the motivation! They had motivation. Motivation was good.

“If you say so.” Eira was unconvinced, but she was willing to give it a shot anyways. “Could we just paint the box…if all else fails?”

“I don’t see why not…but we should try wrapping it first. Who’s it for anyways?” Maugin was curious. Eira was someone who was just shy enough it seemed she maybe didn’t have many friends, and Moo knew it wasn’t for her or Eira wouldn’t have asked for her input anyways. You obviously didn’t wrap presents with the people they were for. It ruined the surprise! Probably anyways.

“Oh…it’s for Bran. She brought me some wonderful books last month…I wanted to repay her for that.” Eira’s face lit up as she revealed the gift was for the pink runner.

Maugin held in a laugh trying to picture the thief being handed a gift- probably one of the few legitimate items she would own. It was a wonderfully sweet thought though and she smiled. “Well, I’m sure she’ll love it….and she’ll be quite impressed with our wrapping skills when we get this done with!” She beamed, confidence only growing by the second. Doing good things was important after all, and this was a VERY good thing.

“Well…I hope so.” Eira said softly, staring at the box with a frown. “Alright box…we’re going to wrap you- and you’re going to let us! No more fighting me, okay? You have to look really nice for Branwenn!”
