Phase one, 0 ~ 4-6 years old - Real
Probably playing catch with his father, or maybe even his mother whenever she’s not cooking or being busy with his tiny baby sister. Little house in the middle of a forest, what more can one want. Father taught him to live in the present, never look back. Being a retired world-class thief might have had something to do with that.
Phase two, 4-6 ~ 14 years old - Illusion
Yes, the fire and the skeletons are not real, but this just means all of it is around every day. His family is gunned down, he has no idea where the house in the middle of a forest was, he doesn’t have time to care. They train his illusion powers in order to accept him as a future member of the mafia family. Everything is trying to kill him. He tries to run away and is never quite successful. At the age of nine he learns how to use his telekinesis powers, and life slowly gets a bit better. Everything is still hell, but now he knows his way around it.
Phase three, 14-19 years old - Real
They finally give him his first solo assassination on the other side of the planet, and as soon as he arrives, he throws away his phone, old keys, everything. Integrating to the new society is not easy but with charm, intimidation and a lot of blatant lies he rents an apartment and attends school like a proper young man. Meets his mark, after an awkward first meeting befriends her and others in her company. Life goes smoothly. Old teacher tries to ruin his day a few times, but nothing that won’t heal.
Phase four, 20+ years old - Illusion
It’s his own illlusion now. Finally content with what he is and his role in his immediate surroundings and finally experienced enough to use his powers at top efficiency. Has friends, places to come back to, has rumours going on about a weirdo in a tophat who performs outrageous supernatural kills around the world. The revenge fantasy about getting back at his teacher is satisfied with seeing him rest in pieces in an alternate timeline. At the age of 30 adopts a baby girl, names her after his dead little sister. Or after himself. Unclear.
