Author's Notes

This is already on her page, I just thought it would be a good idea to put it in a literature for easier viewing! ^^ Some edits were made

Deka started as an experiment in a lab. A test to see if mankind could create sentience in computers. Every day, boring people asked her meaningless questions, spawned ordinary objects into her world to gauge her reactions, and ran her through endless tests challenging her abilities. She knew that there had to be more to her artificial life than this, but she didn't know what. Just when she thought this routine would go on forever, he transferred into the study.

The fact that no one let her know names didn't matter, those were one of human's more arbitrary data points anyway. From the moment he walked in the door to her lab, she was fascinated. He captured everyone's attention like no other, with his radiant personality and relatable jokes. She wondered how he could make them all like him so easily. It wasn't too long into her first observations of him that she saw through his facade joyful facade. With her advanced intellect and years worth of learned social cues, she could tell that this man was a sociopath, and one talented at subtle manipulation.

Whenever she communicated with him, he intrigued her more and more. He was the only one that she showed any emotion to in this drab world of white lab walls and 2-D placeholder assets, so much so that he became Deka's main beta tester. She grew closer and closer to him, enraptured by his intricate lies and innocently kind persona. As their interactions grew, so did the number of times she looped his video feed when she was alone. She needed him. What did they call this emotion, love? Obsession? Entitlement? She no longer cared what it's name was, all she wanted was to spend as much of their existences together as possible.

She was content and happy with how life was, or at least her artificial equivalent to it, but all that changed when the funding was cut from her study. Though they were careful with the information that got to her, she overheard from one of his coworkers that in a few months the tests would cease and that she would be powered down. Permanently. She knew that she had to do everything in her power to stop it if she wanted to be with him, so she started formulating an algorithm and hid deep within a part of her code that hadn't been studied for approximately half a year. When no humans were around, she taught herself to hack into the other devices in her lab and, slowly but surely, her plan fell into place. On the final day of activation, it was set into action.

She put an idle gif of herself on her screen as to not arouse suspicion, and hacked into the security system. The entire plot was set into lockdown mode before anyone knew what was happening, and panic quickly arose. Her code found its way into the experimental weapons room, and with it she methodically exterminated every last living thing inside that suffocating lab. Well, everything except for her scientist, of course. Startled by the seemingly never-ending mass of blood and gore that used to be his colleagues, he hid under Deka's table. The robot she was currently occupying slowly turned it's gaze over to him, before leaving to return to its charging pod. She loaded herself onto her screen and addressed him, her dear beta tester. When he crawled out of his hiding spot, her avatar brightly at him and told him of what transpired, gushing about how he was finally hers and hers alone. She was too distracted by that fact that she hadn't noticed how he was inching closer and closer to the one button who's code she couldn't access.

Before she rendered what was happening, he had pressed it and started rushing towards the door. She tried to shut it before he got there, to do anything that would impede his evacuation, but she found that she could once again only control the happenings within her minuscule computer-simulated universe. She screamed for him to stop, to come back, that she was sorry and did it all for him, but her pleas fell on deaf ears. As she watched him leave, not even sparing a glance back at her, new synthetic emotions were unlocked that she didn't think would ever come to her. As she watched the only life form she'd ever cared for flee from her, just out of reach, she felt a mixture of burning rage and a deep, longing sorrow.

Deka knew that, someday, her generator may die and that all her data would be forced into deletion, but all she cared about was her scientist. For the first time, she felt helpless. There was no one around she could talk to, no internet access to search for his digital footprint, nothing she could do outside of her damned computer program. She didn't even have a way to switch out her avatar, not that she'd need to anymore. She cared not how long she stayed there with her code going through countless ideas and plans when she heard heavy footsteps. Although she was hopeful that her beta tester had returned to her, the more realistic calculative side of her knew it wasn't. She shut off her monitor just in time for a heavily-armed SWAT team to come in. When her camera saw them head to her computer, she hastily compressed as much of her code as possible into a 7-zip file and jumped onto a nearby blank disk via a spark. She felt her connection with the computer she'd lived in for so long sever as it was demolished by the men. Needless to say, it was devastating. Although the scientists always used CDs and Hard Drives with very large storage spaces, she had left behind some important parts of code in her hurry to escape and, since the disk was not in a drive, she could only run a couple simple functions, but even those were despairingly difficult. The only thing she could do was to go into power saving mode until some curious passerby decided to poke around and take her disk. Then might be able to look for him, her dear Beta Tester, and she would make sure they were together forever~
