Seth Avery met Guadalupe Guerra when she was in high school. She had transferred in the middle of the school year, having moved to town to follow her father’s new job. Lupe was rebellious and angry, often not even showing up to classes, something that made her stick out. Seth’s younger brother was in the same year as Lupe, and tried to befriend the angry teenager, which worked out to some degree. Richie’s friendship calmed Lupe down a little, and she often spent time at the Avery household, which is where Seth finally met his little brother’s best friend. The sixteen year old was fierce and fiery and had a lot to say, and Seth appreciated this. She helped Richie come out of his shell and be less of an awkward recluse.

It took some time, but Lupe and Richie eventually started dating, which led to her spending even more time hanging around the house - and Seth himself. Despite being three years apart, the two got on well and had a comfortable friendship, and Seth tried to steer her on the right path. He became the person she’d run to when the arguments with her father got too much and she didn’t want Richie to see her cry.

When Lupe’s father suddenly passed away when she had just turned eighteen, she moved in with the Avery family so she could stay at the same school until she graduated. Lupe became less angry after her father died, and everyone settled in comfortably for a few months. Tragedy struck, and Seth and Richie’s uncle was killed in an accident. Seth had to try to support his younger brother and Lupe while they finished school, and ended up working several jobs just to make ends meet. It got worse when, shortly before graduation, Lupe took off, unable to cope in the home anymore. She left no way for them to contact her and disappeared.

Seth stayed in their hometown, continuing to work and support Richie and his education. It was hard work but there was nobody left to take care of them. Richie became a recluse again as soon as he graduated high school, barely leaving the house unless Seth forced him to. He started getting in to petty crime as a way to make the money that Seth couldn’t afford to give him. Seth had to watch as his brother became more and more involved with gangs and, unfortunately, it eventually cost Richie his life.

After having been gone for nearly five years, Lupe returned to town for Richie’s funeral. Seth was honestly surprised to see her, having assumed she was never going to show up again. Lupe was quiet and stayed at the back of the funeral attendees, distancing herself from everyone else. After the funeral, she apologised to Seth, telling him that she was sorry she had left all those years ago, that she felt it was her fault what had happened to Richie. Seth listened as she spoke, before inviting her back to the old Avery family home to have a drink and talk about what had happened.

Lupe explained why she had left, telling Seth she had been struggling to cope with being a werewolf (something which Seth didn’t entirely believe when she told him, and she had to shift to convince him that she wasn’t crazy). The death of her father and the lack of a pack to support her had been too much for her to handle and she left to try and figure her life out. Seth forgave her for leaving, and told her that Richie’s death wasn’t her fault, and Lupe broke down crying. Seth did what he always did, and talked her through her emotions. Lupe stayed in town for a while, living in the house with Seth. She was done running for now, and even managed to get herself a job at the auto mechanics where Seth worked, helping to fix up cars. The pair quickly settled back into a routine of living together, five years after they had last done so.

All it took to ruin things was one stupid night of drinking and emotions. On the anniversary of Richie’s death, the pair took to drinking to try and help numb the pain of his loss. It was that night that Lupe realised what her special ability was, and accidentally used it on her best friend. In a drunken stupor, Lupe told Seth to let her bite him so that she’d have someone else like her. To her surprise, he said yes and she turned him. The morning after, she realised what she’d done and bolted, leaving the confused new werewolf to experience the pain and agony of his first transformation all by himself. She came back for a time, apologetic and begging for his forgiveness. Seth forgave her, and they tried to live together for a time, but something wasn’t right now and Lupe decided to leave again.

Feeling unable to continue his previous life, Seth decided to leave. He quit his job and sold the house, and began to search for somewhere he could feel at peace with his new self. Neither of the pair knew anything about how werewolves worked, and had become bonded during the short period of time they were together. Seth’s inner wolf yearned to be reunited with Lupe, and he unconsciously drifted towards where she had been roaming, eventually meeting Judas Underwood and the Vale pack and settled into his life as a healer, using his newly found ability to help those who needed it.
