Seth had overheard some of the other pack members talking about a dark grey wolf covered in scars that they had seen in the area recently and, combined with the tugging in his chest, he had a suspicion who it was. He waited until night had fallen and snuck out of the compound, not wanting to be followed and have to explain why he was sneaking around out in the forest. He shifted, and let the feeling in his chest guide him through the trees.

He came upon the cabin after a while of running, and shifted back, quickly changing into the shirt and pants he’d carried with him. The cabin looked slightly run down, but there was a light on in one of the windows and he hesitated on the porch, wondering if he should even knock on the door or not.

The decision was made for him when the door open and Lupe stepped out, almost bumping into Seth’s chest. She immediately recoiled, her hands coming up ready to fight whoever had disturbed her. Lupe’s eyes widened when she realised who it was and she took another step backwards, arms crossed. “You need to go.”

Seth almost whined at this. “Really? You take off and leave me and when I finally find you, you just want me to leave again?”

“That’s exactly what I want. I can’t be around you, Seth.” Lupe made to close the cabin door again, but Seth stopped her and she growled. “Don’t make me tell you to go.”

“You wouldn’t use that on me again.” Seth shook his head, confident he knew her well enough to push some boundaries. He gently moved Lupe aside and stepped into the cabin, shutting the door behind him. “We need to talk, you know we do.”

Lupe huffed, throwing herself down into one of the ragged armchairs in front of the fire. “I don’t want to talk to you. There’s nothing to say.”

Seth sat himself carefully opposite her, leaning back in his chair with his arms folded. “There’s a lot we need to say. I’ll start. I forgive you for running away and leaving me. I don’t know why you did it, but I still forgive you. You’re my friend and I love you.”

Lupe shifted uncomfortably in her chair, refusing to look Seth in the eyes. “... you’re the reason I left. I used… the thing on you and made you do something. That was wrong of me, and I didn’t want to do it again. That’s why I left.” She turned to look at Seth, a frown on her face. “You’re only here because of whatever it is that’s tying us together. If it wasn’t for that then you’d never have found me.”

“You’d have come back to me eventually.” Seth smiled and this got a small laugh from Lupe, who rolled her eyes at him. “What, you know I’m right. We always end up back together one way or another.”

He was right, and Lupe knew it. Even before she’d turned him and the two of them had bonded, Lupe and Seth had always been close. He had always been the person she’d run too when something had gone wrong and she was upset, the one person she would let see her cry.

Lupe relented, and pushed herself off her chair to slide into Seth’s lap, resting her face against the crook of his neck. “I hate that you’re right. I thought that if I could get far enough away that maybe whatever this stupid bond thing is would go away and we could just be us again.”

“I already told you that I forgive you.” Seth reminded her, arms coming up to settle around her waist. “Neither of us really understand this and that’s OK. But we’re back together again and that’s what matters. You’re all I’ve got left, sweetheart. I’m not letting you run away again.”

“... don’t get sappy on me. You already got me to hug you, I’m not going to give you anything else. That’s enough for now.” Lupe mumbled into his neck and Seth couldn’t help but laugh at her.

“Alright. I’ll try my luck some other time.” He teased.
