Peony and Viscare have to choose.

Viscare tapped his sickle claw, a nervous tick he'd developed in that damned lab. It was a few minutes past midnight, and he stood a foot away from his boyfriend, who was an anxious sweaty mess. They were locked in a bedroom together by some wretched ex friend of Peony's. That ex friend had also claimed only one makes it out alive - yeah right, like they'd fight each other over this! It was probably some dumb prank! At least that's what they'd thought. It was day two.

There was no escape. No windows, and the door was insanely sturdy, as though this room was made for them. Viscare had tried kicking it down, or ripping it off of its hinges, but it wouldn't budge. He assumed it had a very heavy frame, steel perhaps? It was cold in the room too, which was strange. There was no way for cool air to make it inside. It was completely empty. The beige shag carpet was hideous, they both agreed, and the walls were painted an off color of salmon.

Both of them were starving now, and the party ruckus they'd heard downstairs the previous night was gone. It felt like they were the only people in the building - and they were hungry, so fucking hungry, ' I'm starving, do you think they'll be back soon?' - it was so bleak. Day two of staring at those salmon walls, and day two of wailing and complaining for Peony. He cried himself to sleep yesterday. Viscare couldn't calm him, but held back tears so the other would tough it out.

" It's so cold, I don't want to be here anymore, I don't think they're going to let us out," Peony sobbed into the nook of his arm, latching onto Viscare's hand.

" It's going to be alright Peony! We're going to make it out of here soon, I'm sure," Viscare soothed, wrapping an arm around his back and squeezing his paw. Peony tucked his head underneath the other's lower petals, pressing his face against his neck as he wept.

Viscare was lying. He knew they were doomed - but what else could he say? Seeing Peony like this was the worst thing he'd ever experienced, and he was terrified of death too.

" They won't let us out, and we can't escape," he sniffed, " I'm so hungry Viscare, my stomach hurts so bad."

" So am I," he huffed with frustration. The declaration ' Only one makes it out alive' kept snapping through his head, and he hated it. He pushed the thought aside again.

Peony pulled away from the other, staring up at him with pleading eyes, " I can't go another day, I can't do it. I didn't eat much yesterday. I don't want to do this anymore."

" You have to. We're getting out of this together, dammit," he snapped. And that was the end of it. Peony nodded, still looking hopeless.

" I'm just scared," he choked up, " I need you."

" And I'll always be here. No matter what - come on Peony," he walked to a corner of the room and sat down. The other followed, sitting on the carpet beside him. Viscare pulled him into his lap with a grunt, and let him cry into his shoulder, " It'll be alright. I love you, Peon."

" I love you too," he responded quietly. Viscare pressed a kiss to his mouth, and Peony felt a sliver better. But not anywhere near enough.
