Poppies, poppies, no longer here,
used to bloom in the fields, oh so red.
Poppies, poppies, you’re lost now, I fear,
where have you gone, is it something I’ve said?
I used to run through you, get lost in the blooms,
now there’s just clay and withered leaves.
Where have you gone, buried in tombs,
my eyes mourn, my heart for you grieves.
I’ve got two eyes to view, but no poppy, no red,
just brown of the soil, colourless world.
Who did this to you, who hurt you my friend?
I’ve missed you for a year, now it’s the third..
You know I loved you, didn’t you know?
Your petals, your roots, your stems and your seeds.
You know I miss you, why won’t you grow?
Now in the fields it’s just grass and it’s weeds.
Poppies, poppies, no longer here,
used to make me so happy, now it’s all gloom.
Poppies, poppies, you’re lost now, I fear,
where have you gone, why won’t you bloom?
