Stepping over tree roots and ducking under branches, Cupcake and Calliope wandered through the forrest, chatting quietly as the sun gold shone between the leaves of the trees above them. A sudden rustling in the bushes caught Cupcake’s attention, her ears pricking up.

“What was that?” she whispered, her eyes wide as she stopped in her tracks and scanned the underbrush.

“Probably a squirrel.” Calliope answered in her normal voice, watching Cupcake with a small smile. “Don’t be a fraidy-cat.”

“I am not!” Cupcake gasped, putting a paw to her chest in mock hurt. “Someone could be there! Following us!” she huffed.

“Sure.” Calliope laughed, shaking her large head. “Now come on. The sun is starting to set.” She started walking again, her tail swaying behind her. Cupcake narrowed her eyes and scanned the bushes carefully one more time before jogging to catch up with her wife.

“Are you sure?” she looked up at Calliope, her big green eyes round like saucers. Calliope let out a soft chuckle and scooped Cupcake up and set her on her shoulder.

“Better?”

“...much.”
